PostSubject: A. Barnabas Cain    A. Barnabas Cain Icon_minitimeSat Mar 24, 2012 1:31 pm

Name: A. Barnabas "Spear Dancer" Cain

Age: 19

Bounty: 20,000

Species: Human

Occupation: Assassin

Allegiance: Freelance Pirate

Home Village/Ocean: Loguetown

Appearance: Barnabas Cain has a rather comical appearance at first glance; he stands at a height of three feet exactly. When combined with his oval-shaped body, his stubby legs and arms make him seem frail and bug-like. The hair on his limbs is short and straight and his skin shines with an oily-gleam. From his fingertips to midway up his biceps, Barnabas has a dark-olive tan; this pigmentation is also present on his legs. He has slender arms and stick-thin legs. His feet are disproportionately large to his body, which does not mean much. His narrow, spindly fingers stretch out a length of four inches (One peculiarity of Barnabas's is the fact that his fingers are all the same length, save his thumb). The most prominent features of Mr. Cain's circular head are his big, beady eyes and his two long canine teeth. Because of a slight overbite, Mister Cain's fangs stick out of his mouth at all times. His lips are cut up and dried out. There is a small scar jutting from the top of his lip to the base of his nose, as well as several minor cuts across his cheeks and upper lip. Another prominent feature is a small crater on the right side of his head, based in the temple, with a bullet sticking out of it.
Mr. Cain's coffee brown hair is trimmed short and shines with a brilliant sheen- one that matches the polish on his brown work-shoes. He also dons a pear of black trousers. His suspenders match the color of his pants. Barnabas's shirt is a white button-up. Barnabas' red neck tie snuggle rests on his collar with a vice-grip. Barnabas also wears a pair of white gloves. When outside of combat, Mr. Cain wears a black suit jacket over his attire. When in combat, Barnabas straps a wicker-basket filled with several throwing spears to his back; also connected to the spear-basket is a spool of guillotine wire.
When Barnabas changes to his half-spider form, he grows two pairs of extra arms (located at the middle and bottom of his torso) a thin layer of greasy black fur grows over his skin, and four eyes grow on the side of his head. One of these eyes, located on the right side of Barnabas's head, has been blinded and a bullet is sticking out of it. His fingers and toes become much sharper, like claws, and his fingers fuse together into two claws and a thumb. These claws still possess the flexibility of jointed-fingers but are far clumsier.
Barnabas rarely changes into full spider form, as the transformation is rather monstrous compared to his regular, comical shape. His torso stays the same size, however, his limbs grow to lengths of eight feet. His fingers and toes meld into single points that hook slightly inward. His jaw dips outward and large fangs grow from the bottom row of his teeth. His eyes now look completely-spider like, with a shallow but evil gaze. A pattern forms on his fur, with the mats of hair along his legs and arms turning into a tan color and black horizontal stripes of fur ring around his joints. His abdomen and head are a brownish grey color, with splotches of coffee brown.

History: Mr. Cain was born in the marine base at Loguetown, however, his marine father was dishonorably discharged for excessive violence during Barnabas's early childhood. Barnabas's family was small; his mother, brother, and he depended on their father's income for survival. After the trial, the family was forced to leave loguetown for a rural life on an insignificant island.
The life of a farmer's son was very similar to the life of a farmer, Barnabas learned. He was given the job of tending the garden while his older brother helped their father tend the flock. Barnabas woke up early to tend his field and stopped working when the sun went down, but his brother did not possess the same virtues. Within their quaint farm a silent rivalry started up. This sibling rivalry was silent, bitter, and woefully one-sided. Barnabas never noticed the hatred his brother gave him, and worked with the same diligence he always possessed. At the same time, his older brother went down a spiral of plotting and scheming; fortunately for the younger child, each scheme usually ended with "but I don't have a gun."
Barnabas quickly became the favored child as his brother squandered his time thinking up revenge plans while he toiled away. Every bead of sweat that rolled from Barnabas's brow down to the soil was rewarded in one way or another; he was given the best cut of the butchered cow, the leftover drink from his father's bottle, and wonderful gifts. On his tenth birthday Barnabas was given a pet puppy. He loved that dog until his brother killed it in spite. The eldest child's jealousy turned him into a ne'er-do-well who lived only to ruin every good thing Barnabas received, yet Barnabas never struck back. For years Barnabas thought to himself that if he endured the trials his brother gave him there would be some grand reward for his patience... but there never was. Once Barnabas reached the youthful age of fifteen he indulged in the same kind of petty foolery the vengeful sack of shit he called "brother" would.
Barnabas's father's discharge was under scrutiny for several years, and only a decade after it had been decreed was the charge revoked. As compensation, the marines reinstated him and sent an apology prize; this prize was a devil fruit. Unbeknownst to Barnabas, devil fruit were beyond precious in value. To pay back all the misdeeds he suffered from his brother, Barnabas stole the fruit, ate half of it, and hid the other half in his brother's bunk.
When Mr. Cain's father found out about the robbery of his devil fruit, he branded his eldest son's face and exiled him; the only gift the father gave his shameful son was a hunting rifle to drive off any beasts as he wandered the wilderness. Immediately, Barnabas was (correctly) blamed for this by his brother.
The rage of Barnabas's hooligan of a brother was violent. With tears streaming down his face the exile trudged out into the field, where Barnabas was working the soil. Barnabas noticed his brother's approach as he heard him proclaim "you got me good..." Suddenly, the crying vagabond started chanting "but I have a gun... but I have a gun. BUT I HAVE A GUN!" The steely rifle-barrel pressed up against Barnabas's temple. Next, Mr. Cain dropped his hoe and dug his hands into the dirt. He looked up at his brother and pleaded, but his kin would not relent. The sound of an explosion deafened Barnabas's ears as a sharp pain came to his skull and his brother cried "what the fuck!?"
In reflex, the powers of the devil fruit triggered and Barnabas transformed into his half-spider form. The bullet embedded itself into one of Mr. Cain's extra eyes but failed to pierce his skull. Shining blood poured down his head. Then Barnabas licked it up. Once the small stream of blood stopped flowing, Barnabas also stopped. For three nights and two days the child sat in horror. Finally, his trance was broken when his father saw the beastly semblance of him sitting in the field. When he was approached, Barnabas went berserk and struck the man across his face and sliced it open. Now, Mr. Cain's father was dead and Barnabas was to blame. With the realization that he had killed his dear old dad, A. Barnabas Cain fled from the island and constructed a new identity that was clean of the sins of the past.
Then he sinned some more.

Personality: Mr. Cain once probably was rather intelligent but his mind has been dislodged into a state of distrust and obscurity. He finds no value in luxuries such as fine wine, fancy food, or elegant clothing; however, there is a special place in his shriveled up heart for heaping piles of gold. The monetary worth of the treasure has no place, he seeks only to amass more coins to add to his literal mountain of gold. Because of his extreme paranoia, he has hidden his cache in a cave on an obscure island, or so he believes. It is entirely possible the "cave of treasures" is one of his delusions, and because of memory issues he simply attributes misplaced wealth with a magical hidden cove. His memory issues are complex; subconsciously he remembers far more than his brain lets on, and while he can not bring any thoughts of his past to the forefront of his mind, he knows his history in the dampest, shady corner of repression. He has a fear of being shot, and when he sees a gun the right side of his head begins to ache.
Beyond his psychological damage, he possesses several other quirks including: giggling when blood is in sight, hiding from large groups, drinking the blood of his victims, shifting to half-monster form to terrify nosy passersby, feigning obliviousness, and skating even in locations inappropriate to skate at. He has a rather staccato, predatory "to-wa-ha-ha-ha-ha" laugh/war-cry. He compulsively lies, but he always regrets it when he does. A. Barnabas does not like lying, however, he finds he cannot escape telling lies (in fact, his current identity is completely fabricated). Commonly, Mr. Cain uses the phrase "If I were a better man I'd... but I'm not."; this catchphrase of his shows that he wants a chance for penance, but believes that he has already reached perdition.

Ship: Non-applicable

Ship Flag: Non-applicable

Devil Fruit: Kumo Kumo no Mi: Tan Jumping Spider
Type: Zoan
Effect: the user can transform into a tan jumping spider, or half-spider hybrid.

Special Abilities: Because of his zoan, Barnabas possesses strength rivaling a fishman's; he is also rather agile, especially when his natural speed is coupled with a pair of roller skates. Another unique trait of Barnabas is his ability to move deftly and subtly (he can tie a knot in a split-second without being noticed). Barnabas's final feat is his ridiculously jump (he can reach a height of 15 metres), which can also be attributed to his spider zoan.

Learned Techniques (Keep it 1-25):
Spoiler:

Spear Toss: Volley- Barnabas grabs ten spears from his spear basket and chucks them into the sky haphazardly. These spears could potentially plunge downward and pierce a target, however, they are not thrown with the intention of skewering anyone. Instead, this ploy is designed to establish ten "spear-points" which when lined with razor-wire create a regular decagon, known as arena.
Attach- Almost effortlessly, Barnabas can tie guillotine wire to the "spear-points" in a split second; this simple practice is used in large scale to thread guillotine wire between the poles, creating an invisible blade-trap for any opponents who land in this spider's web.
Wire Snap- Once a wire has been threaded between two "spear-points", Barnabas cuts it at one end. Because of the tension it is held at, the wire snaps in a half-circle pattern. If anything is hit by the wire snap, they suffer from a thick clout, a strong cut, and possibly entanglement in razor-wire (which is no fun)
Spear Stop- Barnabas's speed provides the negative effect of slow stops, which are easily fixed by Barnabas jamming a spear into the ground to forcefully halt his momentum. There is a secondary benefit to this technique in that it creates an extra "spear-point".
Harpoon Lob- Barnabas lobs a spear at his opponent that has been tied with razor-wire to another spear. The deadliness of the harpoon lob is that it can be immediately followed by a second harpoon lob, or used as a distraction to reset a "spear-point" in a different location.
Wire Pincer- Barnabas throws two spears at his opponent in a way where both of the spears miss the target. Depending on if the technique is used in the vertical or horizontal variety, the positioning of the spears poises the wire in between them to either cut the target horizontally or vertically.
Wire Dance- Barnabas dislodges a spear from the ground, and circles around the "spear point" it is tied to. The wire connecting the two spears is used as a spinning blade like in a blender, to quickly slice and dice any unassuming foes.

Weapons/Items: Mr. Cain possesses a pair of roller skates, several throwing spears, and a long spool of guillotine wire

Character Flaws: weak constitution, cannot swim, and hates being shot.

Goals: Find the cave where his treasures are hidden, reach absolution.
