Appearance: History: -Early Childhood: The sun crept through the window arches of the Quelms Family Residence. The house was grand, the walls were filled with murals of long ago battles, and the furniture was upholstered with the finest fabrics. Bernard slowly dragged his aching body out of bed, aching from yesterday’s hike. He trudged slowly into his dining room and climbed up onto the chair awaiting his breakfast. His mom entered the room, she sat down next to him without a word. Behind the makeup and her glassy eyes he saw her missing of his father. Bernard missed his father too. While he was out plundering he hardly had time for his family. Bernards father was a great pirateBernard did not know his father as a pirate, he only knew him as a great strong man, and a dad who provided them with the finest of things.
“Mawster Bernard,” beckoned Ronald, their chef, “Breakfast is served.” Ronald set down plates of eggs, meats and pastries for them. As he did every morning, it was because of his constant training that Bernard did not grow fat. Bernard had a bottomless stomach, or so it seemed, as he began to eat everything on the table. He had a large stomach for someone his size, and ate every bite. Gerald, their butler, beckoned him, “Bernard, there is a surprise at the door for you.” Bernard, however knew exactly what was coming. He knew that whenever the staff tried to surprise him, his father was to be at the door. He entered the foyer, and sure enough, his father was standing at the doorway, immense in stature, and immeasurable in grit. “Son,” he said in a way most people can only earn through countless experiences. “Today is the day your life will change.” Bernard didn’t know what to think, how would his life change, and why would he want it to. “Today, my son, is the day you become a pirate.
Preteen.
A rock flew toward Bernard at deafening speeds as he swung his staff to shatter it. He had been doing this all morning, when he was not being taught the ways of the world. “Very good,” his father said sternly, “now go get water.” Bernard walked to the shallow pond and bent down to start drinking. The water was clear, and it flowed from the top of the mountain. As he started to drink his Saint bernard dog, megan, walked up to him. His mom thought it would be a novel idea to give her son, Bernard Saint, a saint bernard. Regardless of the joke, Bernard loved the dog, enough to bring her with him to the island. His father had allowed him one luxury from his old life to bring to the island, and he had chose her over his fine meals and his down pillows, because she was the only thing that could keep him warm at night, something that no amount of comforters could do.
He left his home 6 years ago, at age 9. Since then he has lived in a small shack on top of the tallest mountain on the island. His training consisted of every day at sunrise, fighting his way down the mountain, and searching from his father to begin training. His father threw rocks at him, and later shot at him to improve his agility and perception, then sicked dogs, and later thugs at him to improve his combat, they then hiked back up the mountain to his shack. This all continued per normal, until his father deviated from his usual spots. He found him late in the day, and was met with his father holding a strange fruit. He had learned about these, they were fruits that gave you strange powers in a deal with the sea devil, these powers, however were in exchange for your ability to swim. “Today, my son,” said his father, “is the day you become strong.” Bernard was taken aback by this, was his training and dedication not enough, was he really not strong? Then again, powers intrigued him, he wondered what powers the fruit would bestow upon him, would he breath fire? Would he fly? “Yosh!” he called, “What fruit is that?” His father grinned, “This fruit will change you forever, it’s been called ‘the most powerful of paramecias,” this fruit will give you the ability to control quakes, the very vibrations of the earth.”
Teen/Present.
A small tear rolled down Bernard’s cheek in rememberance for his father. He was attending the funeral procession that day, and was crying, not out of sadness, but out of respect for his lost hero. They had said their goodbyes the night before his death. Bernard had made a promise to his father, his father wanted him to become even stronger then he was himself, he wanted his son to be the strongest man in the world, he wanted his son to be a yonkou. During the proceedings he learned of his father’s bounty, it was high, 269,000,000 beli, and was both indicative of his strength and a hard act to follow. At his fathers service was a marine who approached Bernard afterwards. He seemed approachable, non threatening. He had long curly blonde hair and a white coat draped over his shoulders. As the marine passed him he whispered “We’ll be watching you.” Apparently his reputation preceded him. If he was going to be a pirate he needed a crew, but in the meantime he went into the nearby town for a drink.
Personality: Bernard is never calm, he is either happy, sad, or angry. He carries grudges for a long time, as well as friendships. He is usually informal with people, and treats most people like he’s known them his whole life. If you get on his bad side however, he is not known to give up on things. He is confident in his strengths, and unaware of his weaknesses. He enjoys frivolous things like fine dining and music, and loves to party. To him, his staff is his treasure, and he would be useless without it. While he is friendly and believes in the greater good, he wants to succeed in his dream more than anything and is willing to crush anyone who stands in his way whether they be marine, pirate, or bounty hunter. His dream is to be one of the Yonkou, and to experience the power that comes with it.
