Limited threads.
A limited thread is the most advanced kind of rp threads, a variation on “serious” threads where the goal is simply to create and finish a direct storyline, what sets this apart is that limited threads are basically exclusive, the storyline is not open to anyone, rather open to contributing members only, a limited thread also has an index (to be posted in the rp discussion) where the characters, chapters, and storyline are posted, updated, and discussed by readers.
Unlike serious threads limited threads have an over-arching plot agreed on before hand and this plot needs to be approved by a mod before the story begins, in this way a limited thread can be considered “canon” for the rp’s alternate universe.
Characters cannot be in a limited thread at the same time as any other major regular section thread, as it is canon, continuity is likewise an important value. This being said the regular sections events can still be considered as having happened, it all depends on plot relevance.
While the writers of a limited storyline have creative control and have the ability to merge, cross over, or incorporate events from other storylines the “limited rp universe” is considered all one world, events in such a storyline happen in all others, meaning that large scale, global events are heavily discouraged (unlike normal threads they have lasting, permanent consequences for all other limited threads) this is why approval is needed for each “ark” of each limited thread.
Limited stories have established main characters, established protagonists and antagonists, ect,
You will need a form and a role-play thread discussion thread to serve as the storylines index, the form for doing so can be found in the RP discussion area.
Maintaining a limited thread entails:
Getting storyline approval
Updating the index often
Posting a summery for the events of the next chapter before starting it (so that a mod can approve)
Reviewing potential characters that want to join
Announcing when a new chapter is finished.
The limited thread’s main writer has the ability to ask for revisions and changes in potential characters that are looking to join their story, this is not considered an administrative or staff order but does determine weather or not the character is accepted in to the storyline
Limited thread’s storyline directors are however discouraged form approving just anyone, characters in these threads need to have a direct purpose in the plot and a role in the story that entails a degree of carful thought about who to include, typically this is agreed on before hand
Technical stuff, or preferences for the storyline’s writing are left open to the main writer, for example, the writer can require all posts to be told from the main characters point of view, the writer can require characters lines to be color coded, or for characters to possess a story relevant trait, ect.
Lastly the limited format threads are considered their own storyline, assume that the readers have not looked at the character profiles when writing them. For example, each new character should be introduced with a description of how they look and not narrated by name until the main character (or audience) becomes aware of that name, continuity is king.
