| When Shiv opened his eyes, the sky was bright. All around him were rolling plains, a very peaceful and low landscape, though it didn't extend very far. He was at the top of a hill, looking out over a very small island, less than the size of a football stadium. Another small hill, about an equal distance from either side of the tiny island as it was from his own, held it's own stranger. The sun was warm, but not unbearably so. It seemed, to all guesses, to be a spring island.
"I dream...?" Shiv inquired, swiping his hand at the air. Darkness flowed from his pale white skin, a short burst of pitch-black smoke rising into the air and dissipating overhead. The air itself seemed to wobble at the passing of his hand, as if reality were locally disrupted. The Devourer frowned sharply, looking back over at the other human on the lonely, abandoned island.
"I do not know...why, but we must do combat, da." Shiv unhooked the massive sword from his back, holding it at his side. Mist crept down from the blades, rolling along the ground and freezing the grass at his feet solid. The pale, frost blue eyes of the ex-pirate remained fixed on his enemy.
"You come," he instructed simply. Leveling his massive double-bladed greatsword, Niflbrandr, the scowl on Shiv's face twisted into a smile. "You come here."

| ((Even if you have your attack listed on the sheet, it's generally a good idea to describe what your character is doing. It makes RP combat...well, you know, possible.))
Shiv wasn't normally one for formalities; mealtime was mealtime. It pleased him to see that his opponent was of the same mind, moving straight in for an attack. Things were simple when your opponent understood the basics of the food-chain struggle. A thin, bloodless smile came to life at the corners of the northerner's cold, pale face.
His opponent, wearing mostly gold and black, seemed to have some sort of odd ability. Sosutei lifted his sword high, a brilliant gold light surrounding it. If the grim ex-pirate had any sense for irony, he'd enjoy the fact that he'd been matched against somebody with "light" powers. Light was the power of the feeder, the energy that nurtured and brought life. It made food; it's purpose was to be devoured.
Within seconds of witnessing his opponent stab the ground with his glowing sword, a few stray beams of brilliant radiance erupted from the very land beneath his feet. Understanding something of the nature of his opponent's attack, Shiv let a pool of darkness spread from his white boots. In stark contrast to the mist-shrouded predator's perfectly pale form, which reflected all light until he seemed to glow, the darkness absorbed everything. No light from the young pirate's attack, save the first few rays, ever made it to The Devourer's eyes.
"Brace," Shiv instructed sternly, extending the hand was not currently gripping Niflbrandr. The seething darkness at the pale stranger's feet boiled outwards, it's hideously dark edges slowly devouring the brilliant green turf that covered their tiny island paradise. "Jormungandr."
From the expanding blackness rose a hideous thing, looking like some giant serpent made from the very stuff of nightmares. It's eyeless head burst into the sky in defiance of the sun that burned overhead, it's coiling body growing ever longer as it flew over the bright green grassy fields, seeming to pull more and more of it's unending length from the void as it did so. Smoking, black maw wide, the worm plunged towards the hill on which Sosutei stood, ready to devour him and everything around him if he did not move.

| The instant that his foe disappeared from the hill infront of him, Shiv had begun to prepare. He watched unblinking as the massive black serpent slammed down upon the hill, a tidal wave of darkness cascading down it's sides, swallowing up the whole thing in the pitch-blackness of his hungering void. He could feel the air shift behind him, the subtle breeze and the play at his nostrils that told him his opponent had come. "Goodnight," his foe stated. "Da. Goodnight." Without moving, not even turning his head, Shiv tensed his muscles and increased the power of the darkness pulling all things towards his body. His skin went hard as steel, his body freezing into an immovable and near-impenetrable pillar of paleness and dark. When the sword struck his neck, it stopped dead in it's tracks. Shiv's steel-hard skin did not split the slightest bit under the blow, nor did his towering form move to absorb the damage. Rather, it was like striking a mountain of ice frozen before time, unmelting and unshattering, all the force of his blow - enhanced by the northern giant's gravity - was split between the pair. The Devourer could feel the massive blunt force from the blow rush through his body, straining at the muscles of his neck and causing a wave of pain throughout his shoulders. On his end, however, Sosutei would feel the exact same blacklash of force through his arm; the entire force of his blow, magnified severalfold by the power of darkness, crashing down his sword arm. After the force of the swordblow had dissipated between the two, Shiv thrust his sword arm up to his side, knocking away the stationary blade with the back of Niflbrandr and twisting at the waist to square with his opponent. The grim smile on the pale giant's lips did had not changed this whole while. "Hel," Shiv coldly, calmly stated in his thick accent. Responding to his words, dozens of long, sickly thin arms shot up from the darkness in which Sosutei was already standing as a result of standing behind the ex-pirate. The gravity of the crushing dark would prevent him from using Soru so easily; escaping from the grasp of the horrid, black arms would be no easy task. Continuing his about-face, Shiv lifted his left foot and brought it back around behind his right, whipping his entire body around and swinging his mist-shrouded sword's fore blade directly at the teenager's chest. ((OOC: Techniques used in spoiler)) - Spoiler:
Skin of the Hrimthurs - Functions much like Tekkai. When Shiv anticipates an attack, he tenses his muscle and lets all the blood drain from his skin, giving him a deathly white pallor. As a result he temporarily gains a zombie-like resilience to attacks, his skin becoming as hard as steel for the duration. He cannot move at all while using this technique, however. While it will stop slashing and piercing attacks from breaking through his skin, the attacks are still converted into blunt force, doing some damage. Bark of the Yggdrasil - Drastically increasing his gravity while using "Skin of the Hrimthus," Shiv causes his foe to strike his hardened form harder than they anticipated. This causes a backlash of force that causes damage to the attacker if their blow lands. Hel - Shiv can create pools of spreading darkness on objects or surfaces that he or his darkness touches. A number of long, thin, sickly female arms with sharp fingernails made out of darkness rise from these areas, grasping and clawing wildly at anything within reach.

| ((Still made no acknowledgement of the backlash damage, or of the technique 'Hel'...))
Unexpected as it was, his opponent parried the blow, interposing his own glowing sword with Shiv's mist-shrouded blade. The slash was interrupted, the agile youth bouncing back and launching a new attack against the grim northerner. Somehow, he'd managed to evade the grasping arms of his darkness. The looming monstrosity felt a twinge of satisfaction at the thought that his opponent was resilient enough to bring him to this level.
"Da," Shiv stated, his hand turning black, grasping the brilliantly glowing blade and soaking the pain it caused, "this is fight." The glowing knife had cut right through his hand, but The Devourer showed no sign of any pain. Rather, his other hand brought it's double-bladed sword in an arc directly toward his opponent's mid-section, a wave of frozen air trailing in it's wake.
Sosutei's shining dagger had pierced Shiv's flesh, but soon dissolved into the darkness that was his being. Meanwhile, the rending frost of his blade drew ever closer to the man's flesh, threatening to rend him asunder, and freeze whatever it failed to cut.
"This..." Shiv mused, his sword arm bearing closer to his foe, "is good fight."

| Shiv felt his blade pass through empty air, caught his opponent leaping back out of the corner of his eye. Sosutei assumed a defensive stance, making some sort of incredulous remark about the effect of his dagger. Still, the northerner did not give up his offense. Like a wild beast, once his attack had begun it would not end until he or his foe had been defeated; there was no time to worry about defense on the hunt. Putting more force behind the swing rather than stopping it, Shiv slammed the lower blade of Niflbrandr into the ground at his feet, the tip disappearing into the pool of darkness which continually spread outwards from where he stood. The frost-white behemoth spoke a single word, his baleful eyes locked on those of his young foe. "Niflhel." Within a split second jagged pillars of ice rose from the ground in a great ring around the two, shooting up through the darkness on which they stood. With a crackling, creaking sound they rapidly converged to an apex some ways up above the sword. Soon, the sun was gone, and the two would be left in a sparkling dome of thick, jagged ice, the air filled with white mist as the walls sublimated. Unless Sosutei could somehow escape from that place before it finished forming, under the tremendous weight of his own body as it stood within the field of crushing darkness, he'd be caged into a deathmatch with the feral berserker. Hand upon hilt, Shiv stood stoically and watched his opponent to see what his move would be, ready to spring at a moment's notice. ((Technique)) - Spoiler:
Niflhel - Stabbing one end of the blade into the ground, Shiv freezes the water present in the ground. This technique causes a large number of jagged, sharp blades of ice to rise up through the ground in a great ring around the pirate, eventually converging to form a dome of bladed ice-walls around him. The walls created by this technique have many points and bladed edges when they are first summoned.

| As the dome of ice sealed shut with a crackling snap overhead, the smile fled from Shiv's face. Inside was a world of freezing cold, of mist and darkness. His foe had entered his world, and in that place there was only the hunger. The teen seemed to be heartened by his own predicament, going to far as to state he'd been 'waiting for' it. Shiv's death-cold pale blue eyes settled on the charging figure, sword arm ready and darkness seething from the broad, pale expanse of his shoulders. Once again, Sosutei used his bizarre light-producing powers. The northerner's eyes were flooded with golden radiance, the entire world disappearing in the blinding shine of the teen's sword. Shiv felt the pain burning at the back of his retinas, sensitive enough to see even in the darkness, but made no sign of it. Showing an enemy your pain was the same as turning belly-up; it was weakness, and Shiv would not betray it. Closing his eyes against the blinding glare, the mist-shrouded warrior pulled his sword arm back for the final blow. "Hel..." Shiv commanded, his deep and resonant voice echoing off the walls of their icy arena. Even as the word was spoken hundreds of hands leapt towards the ceiling of their enclosure, fowl, clawed limbs made of the darkness that seethed beneath their feet. They filled the entire space of the shimmering dome, wrapping tightly around everything that was not their master and closing onto it with crushing weight, dragging it down into the infinite darkness that was his power. Trapped inside Niflhel, the teen could have no way to avoid them, and they would stop his charge when they took hold. "...Rending," he finished, eyes still closed. The undulating sea of darkness in which they stood began to shrink, shriveling away and retreating back towards Shiv's feet. The arms would also sink back into that hideous void, dragging in anything they held with it. When it was all gone, Shiv would be alone inside the dome of ice. If Sosutei was taken with it, he'd be trapped in a world of impenetrable darkness, freezing cold, and crushing gravity. ((Techniques)) - Spoiler:
Hel - Shiv can create pools of spreading darkness on objects or surfaces that he or his darkness touches. A number of long, thin, sickly female arms with sharp fingernails made out of darkness rise from these areas, grasping and clawing wildly at anything within reach. Hel Rending - This savage attack can be used when any of his beasts of darkness bite onto an enemy. At any time, Shiv can recall one any portion of his darkness; if he recalls to his body some that has hold of an enemy or object, the part of the target that is in within the darkness will be rent from the whole and transported into the darkness inside of the pirate.

| ((He didn't dodge, so I'm going to assume my last attacks landed.))
Shiv's eyes were not open to see the youth begin his desperate bid to escape his fate. Shouting some nonsense about his light conquering the all-hungering void of the northerner's darkness, Sosutei started glowing. Unfortunately, there was no such ending. The darkness of the Yami Yami was unphased by the act, though; it was the darkness of gravity that absorbed everything, even light. In the end, he was dragged into the darkness...the freezing, crushing darkness which no light, not even his own, could escape.
Once again, The Devourer had lived up to his name and conquered another opponent. Light had lost this battle in it's eternal fight with The Dark. The dome of ice shattered and fell into the seething, collapsing pool of black, the very mist in the air around him being sucked in. When the last ebbing recesses of the void he had created were gone, he stood in the middle of a massive, barren crater where the hill had been. Nearly as far out as the shore, the tiny, idyllic island that had been their destined stage had been stripped of all signs of life.
Walking to the water's edge, Shiv looked out at the endless ocean. Dream or not, he'd have to wait for something to happen. A column of that pitch black smoke-like void rose from his back, splitting in half as it reached into the sky. Two great wolves formed from this darkness, their hind legs tapering into a single stream that lead back to their maker. They stared hungrily at the sun overhead, silent save for the quiet pulsing of the seething darkness.
"Hati, Skoll," the pale, mist-shrouded behemoth quietly said. "You have been fed...now return what remains to the sea."
The leftmost of the two giant wolf apparitions ran down on it's front legs from it's place in the sky, stopping only when it rested on the gently leaping ways a few hundred meters out from the shore. Raising it's head out to the horizon-to-horizon expanse of ocean, the wolf opened it's great black maw. A sound like howling wind, freezing the moist ocean air, roared out from the beasts open throat, and soon chunks of ice, rock, and turf followed. In the middle of this pummeling storm of debris was Sosutei; Shiv had devoured the man's fighting spirit by beating him, and had no need of him any longer.
Snow, ice, mist, dirt, and foeman all together, the wastes of The Devourer's meal flew out to sea. Soon Hati returned to the sky above his master, alongside Skoll. Shiv smiled out at the horizon, his teeth as start white as the rest of his body and clothes. Slinging niflbrandr into place on his back, the berserker gave thanks for his meal.
"Is dark universe," Shiv explained to the sea. "Light only hide the dark...the moment is gone, is dark again." Turning back towards the ruined center of the island, he lifted his hand over his shoulder in a dismissive wave as he walked from the shore.
"No light will shine forever. Is always, sooner or later, dark again."

| ((His attack did not melt the hands. The Yami Yami no Mi's darkness absorbed the light, it wasn't destroyed by it. Look here: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v46/c441/5.htmlThe Yami Yami no Mi creates a darkness that sucks in everything, even light. You could have escaped by melting a part of the dome and running out. You could have gotten out of Shiv's darkness turns ago. The fact is, you didn't. You stood their in the dome with him and let his darkness hit you. All the shining in the world wouldn't save you from that. Turn after turn you ignored everything I posted and attacked. Only when mods stepped in did you actually even edit your posts to hold the slightest, tiniest hint that I'd even posted. You didn't dodge the darkness, so you lost.
