| Name: Shiv "The Devourer" Mistwolf Age: 36 Bounty: 178,000,000 (Soon to be Ex-Bounty) Species: Human (IQ Modified) Occupation: Conqueror Allegiance: World Government (Shichibukai) Home Village/Ocean: North Blue Appearance: Shiv is a large, imposing man of pale colouration. Standing at 8'8", he towers over most others, and is possessed of a suitably muscular build to match. His shoulders, chest, arms, and legs are all very well defined and muscular, though they do not look very thick given his great height. Extremely pale white skin covers his entire body, with many stark white scars covering his chest and arms in particular. Shiv's face is just a touch on the long side, his mouth low and broad, giving him a slightly feral appearance. All of his teeth are slightly pointed, though his canines are much larger and sharper than average, on both the top and bottom rows. His irises are a pale, glacial frost blue, and his pupils are stark white. Hair the colour of fresh-fallen snow, roughly three inches long and combed back in jagged, spikey locks, covers the top and back of his head; he also has muttonchop-style sideburns that extend down to his jaw, the length and nature of the hair similar to that of the hair on his crown. Thick eyebrows, white as the rest of his hair, give his eyes a permanently harsh look. A white leather trench-coat, the collar and interior lined with white-wolf fur, covers most of Shiv's upper body. His chest has a harness of white leather straps running at odd angles across it, much of his scarred skin visible beneath. Nothing covers his abdomen save for a large, star-shaped scar that spreads out some four inches in five distinct branches from his navel. Loose BDU pants, white as the rest of his clothing, cover his legs down to just beneath his knees; thick-soled white leather boots, with a four-inch white wolf-fur cuff, cover his calves and feet. Additionally, his fingers end in hard, white claws instead of normal fingernails. A shaggy, white, two foot long wolf's tail protrudes from a hole cut in the back of his coat, just below the belt. Across Shiv's back, held in place by a strap attached to his trench coat, is a massive double-bladed sword, looking almost like two greatswords connected together at the bases of their hilt. It's almost as long, from tip-to-tip, as he is tall. The blades are broad, narrowing at the tip and the base, made of a lustreless silver metal. The hilt is wrapped in thin, supple white leather bands. History: - Spoiler:
Born in a cold, barren wasteland in North Blue, Shiv learned at an early age the very simplest law of nature; the weak die and the strong live. His village was a dying one; every year more of the strong men of the village were claimed by the harsh life imposed on them by the island, while more and more children were born. The island's women could do nothing but tend to the young, who increasingly had less food to eat. Because the adults died faster than the children could grow, the age at which the young were expected to provide for themselves shrunk rapidly. Shiv was sent out on his first hunt at the age of seven.
There was a single veteran male in the hunting party on Shiv's first hunt. There were several teenagers who'd been out on a few, and many other children like himself. They stayed close to the village, avoided the areas known to be the most perilous. Still, it was an ill-fated trip; the only experienced one among them died, and the children were alone in the mountains, left to fend for themselves.
Each of them knew the nature of life on their island, that nobody would come to rescue them. With the hunt's leader dead, the village was better off if the rest of them followed him to the afterlife. There would be that many less mouths to feed, that many less bodies huddled up in the few decent buildings, that much less waste and disease. Only those that proved their strength by making it back on their own would be welcomed into the village. Knowing this, Shiv struck out from the rest of his group one night, abandoning and forsaking children he had shared wet-nurses with, grown with besides the warm hearths of his home. They were only liabilities in the frozen, dark tundra.
Seven days later, in the dead of night, a frozen and dying Shiv made it back to his village. Ringing the bell at the town's center, alerted those on watch to his presence. Warily they approached the child, thinking him a mountain spirit, torches and spears at the ready. Instead, they found the child on death's door, skin bleached white by the cold and wind. More remarkably, he was wrapped in the freshly-skinned, still-steaming skin of a very large winterwolf.
When the elder was summoned to see with his own eyes the child, alive and wrapped in the mist-shrouded wolf pelt, the man declared that Shiv was a true warrior, beloved of the gods. To have survived on his own for a week in the unforgiving cold, killed a wolf, and returned to his people, the village praise him, and his family was given the villages greatest hut to raise him in. He was trained personally by the strongest warriors still alive, fed the finest meats from every hunt to keep his body strong. At the age of ten, he was given his adult name: Mistwolf, for the steaming hide he had used to survive the cold.
Shortly after, though, as if by a miracle, the island was discovered by a trading company that had recently come to North Blue from East. It brought with it exotic produce and meat, clothing and lumber, fuel and medicine. The island's one, tiny, dying village rapidly become a modern a thriving one, buying by the boatload supplies that could not be found anywhere on the island in exchange for mining rights to it's ore-rich mountains. Before long the old ways, along with Shiv, were forgotten. Though initially happy to see his village restored from the brink, the child soon felt forsaken by his people.
Leaving one night, in the freezing darkness of winter, Shiv made a soujourn to the island's holiest place, one that he had only heard about in stories. Once a place to which all warriors made a pilgrimage to seek the approval of the gods, it had been abandoned generations ago. Travelling alone for the second time in his life, only twelve years old, the young warrior sought out the old shrine; he found, at the island's center, a hotspring inside a cave, teeming with strange plants and ferocious wolves.
The alpha, a monstrous arctic wolf, padded his way up to the young warrior, who in turn stood in ground. Shiv and the wolf. Surrounded by the beasts, ready for his death at any moment, the child fought and managed to slay the Alpha. After striking the mortal blow Shiv wated for them all to beset upon him; this did not happen. Instead, the pack let out a long, low howl, and left the cave. Puzzled, the child made a fire and slept through the night. When he awoke, he found the pack sleeping in a circle about him.
It was everything that Shiv could have wanted. Though he could not speak with them, he felt that he understood the wolves better than his countrymen. When he hunted, the wolves hunted with him. When he slept in the grotto, so did the beasts. They followed his commands, even unspoken ones, as if he had become their leader. Taken into the pack, Shiv began his life anew among the wolves.
Years passed, the boy growing into a powerful and savage man. Though Shiv did not know it, the holy place was filled with a strange plant called IQ by the outside world. The plant changed him, made him strong; in time, he began to take on features similar to that of his new family. His teeth grew sharp, his fingernails became claws. His eyes grew keen, seeing as well in the dark as in the light of day. Sounds and smells that been too faint or indestinct were now clear and recognizable as a human's speech to him. Shiv's skin became resilient, tough, and the coldest days ceased to bother him at all. Instincts that made him an even more ferocious and deadly hunter were awoken inside of him. Also, he grew a long, shaggy white wolf's tail, of which he became extremely proud.
All good things, however, must come to an end; so it was for Shiv, when the island he was born on grew too small for it's rapidly expanding human population. Because of the new prosperity of the town, as well as the new settlements created to support all the miners, the small island rapidly became overrun by civilization. Eventually, one by one, his pack was killed off by hunters, more because they were seen as a threat than for their meat or pelts, neither or which was particularly valuable. Shiv gathered all of the surviving wolves left to the island and, at the age of eighteen, prepared to wage war on the people whom had forsaken him.
Stealing into town in the dead of night, Shiv and twenty-two wolves began their massacre. Men, women, children, all were put to the claw that night. When the first light of dawn rose over the village, none but the wolves and their altered leader remained to see it. One, though, had escaped; a young man, a friend of Shiv's in their childhood, had run off early enough during the slaughter to make it to the town. The lupine warlord had very little time to rejoice in his triumph, for the light of dawn also brought with it retaliation, in the form of the miners. And they, in turn, brought guns.
Against his wishes, the wolves rushed the miners in a suicide charge, to buy Shiv time to escape. Knowing that there was nowhere he could be safe left on the island, the young warrior stole the only boat docked at the town, the most recent merchant vessel to deliver supplies. All the crew save the navigator was killed, and Shiv narrowly escaped to the cold seas of North Blue, escaping the retribution that had unjustly been brought against him for engaging in a simple act of self-defense.
Word of the massacre spread quickly, and Shiv became a wanted pirate in North Blue. Having no qualms with slaying any living being, human or otherwise, he quickly adopted a savage policy of Morgana Piracy, targeting small, weak islands and slaying everyone over the course of a single night, looting and sailing by the break of dawn. Many savage and bloodthirsty young rookies sought him out, impressed by the tales of his ruthlessness and looking to make a name for themselves under him. The savage pirate also took to gathering wolves aboard his ship, further increasing his legend. Soon, he had three ships in his fleet, two of which existed soley as housing for his wolves, known as "The Devourers."
Eventually, though, he bit off more than he could chew. One island heard of his exploits and, in their paranoia, hired a great force of mercenaries and bounty hunters. When luck had it that Shiv arrived on this island, they were prepared, and his forces were massacred. While he did manage to take out nearly all the hired defenders in the process, when dawn came the town had not been taken; it had been nearly destroyed by the fight, but it's people had survived. A wounded, crewless, and defeated Shiv made his way back out to sea, only to have his ship sunk by marines a day later.
Waking up on a barren coastline, Shiv found himself utterly stranded on a small, lifeless desert island. The entire thing was oddly devoid of any form of life; not animals could be found, no plants grew anywhere. From one coast to the other, the island was nothing but dirt and rocks. However, on his third day of wandering the lifeless islet he was marooned on, he discovered a ray of hope in the form of a single sproutling. Gathering moisture from rocks every morning, he kept after the plant with all of his might. Though it would do little for him even if it did miraculously grow, he was determined to see that it did. It became Shiv's meaning in life, seemed to him to be the only hope he had left in the world.
After months, in the brink of starvation and closer yet to absolute madness, Shiv discovered that his fruit had grown up nearly over night. At the dead center of the island stood a tree, strange and twisted but magnificent, with a single melon-sized fruit growing from it's bough. Though at first he thought the madness had taken him at last, Shiv was unwilling to give up on his only hope. Ripping the fruit from the tree, he ate the entire thing, though it tasted foul beyond words. When he was done with it he ate the leaves and the sapwood, tore the roots from the ground and ate them as well. For a long while he felt as though he'd been poisoned, but Shiv was alright with that. At least, he reasoned, he'd die with a full stomach.
The next day, staring at yet another of the flocks of seagulls that avoided his little island like the plague, Shiv gre hungry. For whatever reason, he reached a hand towards the sky, found himself wishing against all odds that he could just somehow pull one down to the island. Much to his surprise, he did; a strange darkness seemed to radiate down at him, and the bird came down to the island. It wasn't long before he was feasting on raw seagul, dragging every single one that came anywhere near the island down to himself.
Nearly a year after he'd been wrecked there, a ship sailed within sight of the island. Emboldened by his strange new power, Shiv attempted to draw the ship to his island. More shockingly, he actually succeeded; the ship drifted towards his little open-air prison, sideways, until it beached on the shore. Slaughtering everyone aboard the small merchant vessel, the feral pirate set sail out to the sea once again. This time, though, he was resolved. He would not cowardly predate upon small, helpless villages. Shiv resolved to hit the big-time, to make his name known throughout the world. "The World is Your Oyster," a plaque upon the ship had stated.
Shiv couldn't agree more. From that day first, he set out to the grand line with a single goal: "Devour the World." After over a decade of pirateering, sowing chaos and disorder in his wake, Shiv Mistwolf became known as "The Devourer," a pirate of great reknown and terror. On his thirty-sixth birthday, Shiv was bestowed with the honor of joining the Royal Shichibukai. Personality: Though Shiv is a fierce predator, he bears absolutely no ill will towards other humans. Driven by animal instincts and an alpha male desire to be on top of things, he can and often does come across as blunt, savage, and merciless, but his actual personality is far from that. In reality he is actually a calm, rational, and fair person. He is also extremely honest, Not extremely intelligent in terms of book learning, Shiv is nonetheless a clever, intuitive, and adaptable. His instincts give him an edge with dealing with people, making it extremely difficult to lie to or pull one over on him. He is quick to find the gains and losses possible in any given circumstances, rarely if ever rushes into a dangerous situation headlong...even though he's exactly the sort of person who acts like he would. When it suits him, Shiv can be friendly and decent. It's not an act, either, as he is not a naturally malicious person. When around those whom have treated him well or from whom he profits in some way or form, he is polite, considerate and, to an extent, helpful. Finally, the pirate is also known to have a dry sense of humour, and will occasionally crack jokes regardless of his mood (at least, what qualifies as a joke to him). Ship: The White Hunt Ship Flag: Black flag with a white, forward facing, stylized wolf skull with a snowflake beind it. Devil Fruit: Yami Yami no Mi Type: Logia Effect: Allows the user to create and manipulate elemental "darkness," which is a physical representation of gravity. Additionally, the user can pull anything at all into his body using the power of this darkness, as well as expel it forcefully at a later time. Finally, it allows the user to temporarily seal Devil Fruit powers. Special AbilitiesHeightened Vision - Because of his IQ modifications, Shiv can now see further, as well as seeing clearly in very low light conditions. Heightened Hearing - Due to his wolf-like traits, Shiv has a sharp sense of hearing. He can pick out and specifically identify sounds as if they were half closer and louder than they actually are. Heightened Smell - Possessing a canine sense of smell, Shiv can identify individual scents and track them over a fairly long distance. Cold Tolerance - Cold weather, up to arctic tundra conditions, do not particularly bother Shiv. Unnatural cold below this still affects him, albiet less. As a side-effect, he's not very fond of heat in excess of 40°C. Tank Edurance - Possessing a body that has endured the extremes of the elements and lived among the beasts of the wild for much of it's life, in addition to the constant abuse suffered as a result of his devil fruit's side effect, Shiv has an enormous capacity to withstand and resist the effects of pain. Gravity Core - As a result of the powerful gravity created by his devil fruit at all times, Shiv takes more damage than normal from some types of attacks (namely, those that would be affected by gravity to begin with). Techniques - Devil FruitSkoll and Hati - The most basic use of Shiv's Yami Yami powers. A stream of darkness rises from Shiv's back, splitting into and forming two massive black wolves in the air above him. The wolves have a thin, sickly, exaggerated shape, with their jaws and front legs being larger than usual, and their back legs disappearing into the stream of darknesses that rises from the pirate. They can be made to leap earthward and attack or used for various techniques. Jormungandr - A massive, broad serpent made of darkness that rises from the pool of darkness at Shiv's feet and coils along the ground around him. It, like the wolves, has a head and fangs of exaggerated size, growing broader towards it's tip and narrower towards it's tail, where it meets with Shiv. Though used primarily to bring things into the void, it can be used to attack. Hel - Shiv can create pools of spreading darkness on objects or surfaces that he or his darkness touches. A number of long, thin, sickly female arms with sharp fingernails made out of darkness rise from these areas, grasping and clawing wildly at anything within reach. Sun-Eater - Skoll, the left wolf, rises into the sky and opens it's jaws, appearing to "eat" the Sun. In reality, the darkness reaches high into the air and forms a massive disk that blocks out all light below it for a very large radius. This creates an area of darkness that is very difficult to see in for those with no special adaptations, as well as making Shiv's own darkness harder to spot within the shaded area. Skoll is kept occupied by this attack and cannot be used for other techniques while it is active. Moon-Eater - Hati, the right wolf, rises into the sky and opens it's jaws, appearing to "eat" the Moon. This technique works exactly like Sun-Eater, but is used during the night. Because there is less ambient light to begin with, the area affected by Hati is completely and utterly dark, with no visibility for anyone who does not have special adaptations and poor visibility even for those that do. World-Eater - Sending his serpent of darkness, Jormungander, spiraling out around him and into the ground, Shiv creates an area of darkness on the ground. Anything that passes through Jormungandr's jaws or that stands in the dark area is drawn into the darkness, and trapped within a void of crushing gravity inside Shiv's body, unable to escape until Shiv himself expels it. Sky-Eater - One or both of the wolves, depending on which is available, will point their open jaws at an opponent. Massively powerful vortexes will form within their mouths, drawing in huge volumes of air. The suction of the vortex, combined with the technique's intense directional gravity, will pull any opponents or objects in their path to them unless they are securely anchored to something. Roots of Yggdrasil - Shiv creates roots from his darkness that attempt to wrap around and ensnare nearby targets. These tendrils of darkness are extremely heavy, the crushing weight of their gravity making it very difficult for those entangled in them to move around freely. Return from Hel - Using the mouth of either Skoll, Hati, or Jormungandr, Shiv will forcefully eject anything that is current stored within his void in a stream of high-pressure debris. Because of the force of the release, anything in or hit by the stream of debris will be pummeled and take a great deal of damage. Hel Rending - This savage attack can be used when any of his beasts of darkness bite onto an enemy. At any time, Shiv can recall one any portion of his darkness; if he recalls to his body some that has hold of an enemy or object, the part of the target that is in within the darkness will be rent from the whole and transported into the darkness inside of the pirate (i.e. arm, leg, chunk of a building, etc.) Hel Binding - Any Devil Fruit user in contact with Shiv or any of his beasts of darkness has their ability to use Devil Fruit abilities removed for as long as the contact lasts and a few seconds thereafter. Unlike the power-draining abilities of seastone, this does not make affected devil fruit users any weaker during it's duration. Ragnarok - Shiv's ultimate destructive technique; he must remain motionless and concentrate during it's execution. Using his three primary darkness techniques, he covers both the sky and the ground in spreading disks of darkness. The radius of both sky and ground covered stay the same, and continually spread outwards to ever greater distances. Jormungandr and Skoll (at night) or Hati (in daytime) run rampant, wildly attacking everything within the darkened territory, dragging all they touch into the crushing darkness. At the same time, thousands of the hands of Hel rise up from the darkness spreading along the ground, grabbing and dragging in every living being, object, or even landscape feature within the radius. When Shiv has spread it as far as he wishes, the darkness descends from the sky and rises from the ground, forming a flattened sphere. Very quickly the darkness spirals inwards, collapsing back upon Shiv. When it is gone, absolutely nothing but a crater of bare earth remains in the space that had been filled by Ragnarok, all things within trapped inside the crushing darkness. Techniques - NiflbrandrYmir's Touch - Niflbrandr produces an aura of chilling frozen steam that burns to the touch. Any wounds made by the sword while using this technique will be completely frozen over; this stops bleeding at the time, but can cause shattering of the wounded area, frostburn, or hypothermia. Additionally, attacks blocked while this technique is in use may do damage to the interposing object, as freezing tends to make objects more vulnerable to blunt force. Winds of Niflheim - An air-slash made with either end of the blade. A pale, glowing white arc of razor-thin, frozen air will extend from the blade along the plane of the slash, freezing and cutting anything living or dead in it's path; as an exception, the slash will shatter into a storm of smaller, jagged air slashes if it hits anything too hard to cut. Each of the shattered parts function as smaller versions of the original technique. Niflhel - Stabbing one end of the blade into the ground, Shiv freezes the water present in the ground. This technique causes a large number of jagged, sharp blades of ice to rise up through the ground in a great ring around the pirate, eventually converging to form a dome of bladed ice-walls around him. The walls created by this technique have many points and bladed edges when they are first summoned. Techniques - GeneralSkin of the Hrimthurs - Functions much like Tekkai. When Shiv anticipates an attack, he tenses his muscle and lets all the blood drain from his skin, giving him a deathly white pallor. As a result he temporarily gains a zombie-like resilience to attacks, his skin becoming as hard as steel for the duration. He cannot move at all while using this technique, however. While it will stop slashing and piercing attacks from breaking through his skin, the attacks are still converted into blunt force, doing some damage. Jotunn's Leap - Using leg strength built by his increased gravitational pull, Shiv has learned how to step off of the air itself to move from one place to the next. Working similarly to geppou, this technique allows him to continue moving through the air by constantly kicking. However, because of the nature of his devil fruit powers, the tremendous force of his kicks causes each one to produce a loud, powerful shock wave, damaging anything within several meters of him while he's using it; it also means that if he stops kicking for even a moment, he drops like a rock. Wild Body - His time living amongst the beasts of the wild has taught Shiv much of the workings of the body of man compared to that of an animal. Because of this and his unique, IQ-modified physiology, Shiv has learned to modify his body to better suit his needs in a fight. Working like Life Return, Shiv can either alter his physical structure slightly in two ways: he can become trimmer, sacrificing strength and endurance for speed and agility, or increase his muscle mass and become more powerful and durable, slowing down in the process. Techniques - CombinationFimbulvintr - Usable only with Niflbrandr, and only after Sky-Eater has been used at least once. Shiv stabs one end of his sword into the darkness, creating an area of extreme freezing cold. At this point Hati or Skoll will breath out a cone of frigid air by expelling all the air that had been drawn into the void by Sky-Eater through the cold-spot made by Niflbrandr. This will create a large amount of snow; if aimed directly into the air, it will cause roughly a foot of snow to fall over a hundred-meter radius. When aimed at individuals, it pummels them with the weight of the snow, in addition to the damage done by the extreme cold temperatures. Bark of the Yggdrasil - Drastically increasing his gravity while using "Skin of the Hrimthus," Shiv causes his foe to strike his hardened form harder than they anticipated. This causes a backlash of force that causes damage to the attacker if their blow lands. Hrodvitnir's Fang - While launching an attack at a foe, Shiv increases the gravity in the direction the attack is coming from. This results in the opponent being pulled into the attack, causing them to suffer additional damage in the same way that the pirate himself takes additional damage from physical attacks. Weapons/ItemsNiflbrandr - Double-bladed sword with Hie Hie powers. Goals: To become the apex predator at the top of the "Food Chain"; essentially, to prove himself a hunter of men with no peer.
