Volnus Dispater, Scourge of the North Empty

Name: Volnus Dispater "Scourge of the North"

Age: 35

Bounty: 30,000,000

Species: Human

Occupation: Crazy axe-murderer guy. Well, he can navigate too.

Allegiance: Pirate

Home Village/Ocean: North Blue

Appearance: Dispater is a giant of a man, 10 feet tall, incredibly imposing and clad in black armor, complete with face concealing helmet. His face, in the rare moments it is visible is that of a middle aged man, features hard. His hair is already grayed and cut quite short. His eyes are also grey, but exude a quiet, somewhat stressed, even scary determination not seen in his face otherwise.

History: Dispater is originally from north blue, and has had a rather hard life. He was born to a woman imprisoned by slave trader pirates, and from a very young age, he was treated much like his mother, a slave. He and his mother were in the group who were kept on the ship instead of being sold, and thus Dispater was forced to live on the slave-trader ship with no outside contact until his twelfth year. Apparently, the pirates were running low on funds for some reason, and were forced to sell some of their personal servants to make do. Dispater was sold to a noble in a secluded island, to do as he wished.

Already, Dispater was hatching plans to escape. The noble's indulgence would be his downfall. In the first day, Dispater was chained to the floor by his leg. The noble had recently also bought a devil fruit through some shady channels. Dispater had heard of devil fruits before and there was one on the table right in front of him. Chained to the floor, he would have to do something tricky to get to it. Then, the noble was called for, forcing him to leave the hall for a few precious minutes. Dispater had just enough reach to grab the table leg and weakly shake it and to his luck, it worked, knocking the fruit from the table and into his hand.

He took a bite, cursing the taste, but ate every piece to make sure the noble couldn't be sure he took it. Then he waited. The noble had him whipped, simply because the fruit was gone and he had a suitable scapegoat. This strengthened his resolve to visit a violent death upon the noble and his family. In the night, he broke his chains with blades of shadow and sought out the noble, killing him with another spear of shadow. Then, he hauled the body out to the main hall and sought out the youngest child of the pair, taking its shadow into the dead nobleman. He forced the dead nobleman animated by the child's shadow slay first the firstborn of the family, and then wound the wife before killing the child from which the shadow had been taken. Then he finally delivered the coup de grace to the wife.

Then he left, killing the dockworkers and stealing a ship. From thereon, he has landed on islands, sometimes peacefully, but often simply to attack, striking people down with wraiths made from his shadow, and bringing small communities to ruin with expanding hordes of the dead, only to abandon and kill them when the village is finished and moving on elsewhere. He has been doing for two decades now, and has been, for all his slaughter, labeled a high-priority threat. He has kept the ship he stole over twenty years ago and has taken the bodies of the most powerful fighters he has slain with him, causing more chaos wherever he goes.

At some point during this time, he also took a liking to axes.

Now, Dispater has set his sights to the grand line, feeling a great conflict brewing there. He has sailed the Death Dragon there, and seeks conflict.

Personality: Dispater has long since snapped, the constant cruelties he had to face becoming the only thing he knows. He is massively misanthropic, believing that no one deserves to live, and wipes cities clean as often as he can. He will cooperate with others for a time, if they help him in his quest to wipe the world clean of human life. That is the only way he believes one can earn their keep in the world, for their unworthy existence helps rid others of theirs.

Dispater is still quite methodical in his slaughter, and recognizes that he must himself stay alive to cause the maximum possible amount of death and havoc. Thus, he does not seek to destroy in all cases, sometimes merely disguising himself to repair his ship, and replenish his food supplies, holding back the urge to smite the unworthy walkers of a world too good for them.

Ship: The Death Dragon, a small barque, with the bow carved into the shape of a menacing dragon. The ship itself is somewhat decrepit looking and painted black.

Ship Flag: He has no flag.

Devil Fruit: Kage Kage No Mi
Type: Paramecia
Effect: Control shadows, create zombies via shadows. More here.

Special Abilities:
Super Strength
Dispater is strong enough to lift a boulder 15 feet in diameter over his head and throw it some distance.

Inhuman Endurance
Dispater can take great amounts of damage, capable of enduring several sword attacks from typical marines without flinching, though it does deal him minor wounds. Such attacks however, typically cannot pierce his armor. He can also run great distances non-stop even when armored, and is extremely hard to tire.

Fighting Abilities
Dispater is an expert fighter with his axes, and with other weapons, capable of overwhelming entire squads of marines with pure fighting prowess. Of course, such skills still leave him inferior to some warriors in the grand line.

Learned Techniques:
Basic uses of the Kage Kage No Mi
Dispater has the ability to proficiently use the main abilities of his fruit. He can thus use it to grab people's shadows, and shunt them into corpses to animate under his command.

Wraiths
Dispater can transform his shadow into several "wraiths", each one a ghostly discorporeal appearing warrior that looks like a floating black ragged robe wearing ghost (this is functionally Brick Bat). He is limited to a maximum of 15 wraiths.
Wraith Animation
Dispater is capable of having the wraiths he has made from his shadow to take over corpses, thus animating them without relying on the shadows of other people.

Shadow Weapons
Dispater can also warp his shadow into weaponry, striking people with shadow-weapons from the ground. His favorite method of using this ability however, is shaping the shadow into an axe around his real one, effectively enlarging his axe.

Weapons/Items: Two axes that can be wielded in one hand
Spoiler:

A single two handed axe.
Spoiler:

And a black full-body plate armor which encapsulates him from head to toe, capable of stopping a bullet if the angle is right.

Goals: Kill everyone.
