Brook's new soul sword power makes about as much sense as chakra... my this is disappointing... also since when can fishmen light themselves on fire?

the one good point of this chapter was ussops speech, about how he no longer needs to lie because he can do the things he says he can do

The way I see it, Brook's devil fruit gives you the power to control your soul. Since he's just a soul and all, he's wrapping said soul around his sword, which is causing the freezing effect. Ghosts are generally considered to be cold and to suck the warmth out of living things, so it does make some sense.

I got nothing on the fire thing, but it's not like we haven't seen crazier stuff (Diable Jambe comes to mind)

That's why it's progress Cob. It's possible he's learned that during the two years of training. And maybe his old sword wasn't high quality enough to withstand the, uh.... soul pressure, or something. I find the explanation that it comes from his devil fruit somewhat less disappointing and more logical than saying it comes from the sword.

There seems to be two translations going with the sword; one says its a new one, the other says that he just got his old sword sharpened.
