| Name: Excelsior Description: This is an English-style broadsword. The blade, hilt, and guard are all formed in the shape of a cross. The coloration of the hilt and guard are fairly ordinary. They are a simple gray, but the blade shines so brightly in direct sunlight that it almost looks like a miniature sun itself. Even in dark places, the blade is still bright, though not nearly as much as it otherwise would be. It cannot actually glow in the dark though; it still needs some light source to produce this effect. This sword’s make is the equivalent of a Supreme Grade Sword. The sword's scabbard is not quite as plain as its hilt and guard. It is white as snow, all except for two spots. These spots are grooves into which sapphires have been laid. They are placed just below where the sword would slide into the sheath and they are on opposite sides of the sheath. Special Abilities: Excelsior has absorbed the Enerugi-Enerugi no mi. As such, it has the ability to absorb energy and then release that energy again. (Look up the actual fruit for the specifics on strengths and limitations.) This sword is like Kitetsu trio in that it has a temperament of its own, beyond that of its user. Excelsior cannot be wielded except by an individual who has proved himself or herself to it. To prove oneself, a person has to either beat Excelsior's previous wielder or go through a dangerous ordeal to find the sword. Alexander went through the dangerous ordeal option when he went to Rusukaina to find Excelsior. If one doesn't prove oneself to the sword, but tries to wield it anyway, it feels awkward and heavy, more like a big chunk of metal than a deadly weapon. It's almost like the sword itself is trying to drag its wielder down. In this event, its devil fruit ability also will not come into play. Note: Once this sword 'decides' that it likes someone, it will never stop liking that person, even if that person is defeated while wielding it. History: - Spoiler:
Legend says that Excelsior was forged by the same blacksmith who made several other famous swords. Most notable among these are Excalibur and Clarent. Regardless of the truth of this claim, Excelsior itself is an extremely well made sword and some have even claimed it to be better than the legendary Excalibur. It was from those claims that Excelsior’s name was derived. In Latin it means, ‘Ever Higher’. In spite of this, Excelsior never gained the same prestige as its ‘brothers’. After only its third wielder died, it was bought by a man from a faraway kingdom and was literally lost to history because soon after this event, the Void Century began.
In the present day, Excelsior has long since been forgotten. Most of the select few who have heard its name believe it to be only a legend. Among these select few, there is only one man who is seeking it. His name is Alexander D. Remington. He heard the legend of the sword from a dying old man, who had also once searched for it. The man claimed that the sword did not exist, but Alexander still persisted. He asked him if there any rumors at all about the blade’s last known location. The man told Alexander that he had heard many rumors about where the sword is hidden and he had followed up on all of them except one. There are two reasons why he did not follow up on this rumor: One, the rumor only spoke of a long lost sword that had survived the Void Century. It did not name Excelsior specifically. Two, the island on which it was said this sword was hidden, was one few returned from. The beasts of the island were too much for most people to handle. The name of the island was Rusukaina.
Alexander went to the island, despite the old man’s warnings. He took with him only his clothing and an ordinary katana he had bought from a shop with his own money. His time on the island was rough and many times he found himself close to death from both thirst and mighty beasts. At one point, his katana broke, leaving him only his devil fruit powers and physical strength for protection. Finally, he found a large stone with an inscription on it. The inscription was just one word: Excelsior. Alexander pushed the stone aside to reveal a staircase beneath and he descended into the depths. It was there that he found the sword. It had been placed inside of a now rusty iron case at the back of the room. Amazingly enough, the sword was still in perfect condition, as was its scabbard. In fact, the blade of the sword shone like the sun when Alexander first drew it, after having returned to the surface.
Alexander took the sword and left the island and he returned to the old man to show him Excelsior, thinking that the man deserved it for helping him and spending so much time looking for it. Unfortunately, Alexander arrived too late. The old man had already died. So Alexander went to the old man’s grave and planted Excelsior in the ground next to his grave. Alexander stood on guard by the grave for a single hour. During that time, a couple of citizens saw Alexander, recognized him, and called in the Marines. Alexander used his wings and fists to fight off the Marines until the end of the hour. Then he took up Excelsior once more and flew away to rejoin the Dusk Pirates and prepare for his next move.
