History: Ryohei was born on a small island in the Grandline, the island was partially remote and it took about two days to reach the nearest landmass. Ryohei's parents died while he was very young and he grew up living off the land. Growing up without parents Ryohei was especially devious and hard headed doing what he wanted how he wanted when he wanted. This lead to problems as he grew up, he got into fights often and performed acts of crime such as stealing.
He would start fights with other children for little to no reason always coming out on top. This lead the parents of the island to begin hating him and his acts of stealing from everyone made the remainder despise him. One incident when he was only 11 years old he went into the market and stole from a stall. This wasn't like his other stealing crimes as he didn't even try to cover this one up and of course he was caught. Fed up with Ryohei's attitude the market owner hit began hitting him as hard as he could.
The market owner being a giant off a man against an 11 year old kid was very lopsided and should and would of stopped had it not been for the encouragement of the crowd. Carried by the anger of years and the cheers of the crowd the owner beat Ryohei to a bloody pulp but kept going. Just then an old man entered the market, he used a cane and had a long beard that went to his chest. He saw what was happening and went to the store owner and gently asked him to stop. Upon being asked to stop the man became enraged that anyone would try to protect Ryohei after years of him tormenting the town while they turn a blind eye.
He turned back to hit the near dead Ryohei and a split second later he was on his back. No one knew what happened but didn't bother to ask and dispersed. The old man picked up Ryohei and carried him back to his ship, once he put Ryohei in a bed is when he finally lost consciousness. He awoke a week later in an unfamiliar place. It was a plain room with a mattress on the floor a knee high table with a pen and paper on it.
He stood up wondering where he was and finally looked at himself. He was heavily bandaged and still very badly wounded but it did not bother him. He opened his sliding door and walked into a long hallway, at the end of the hallway were bigger doors identical to his own. He walked to it and opened the door, in the room there were two people. An old man and a child around his own age, he walked up to the old man remembering who he was.
"Teach me." He said. "I saw what you did and I want to learn." The old man was surprised but did not show it to the boy. Not many could follow his movement and that fact he could meant something special. The old man agreed to teach him alongside his other apprentice Akio. The training for Ryohei was scheduled to begin a week from that day but he asked to begin the very next day. The old man accepted and began by telling him about the training.
The training was 14 hours a day 6 hours in the morning went to Martial Arts and after that a lunch break for an hour. Another 6 hours was then spent on swordsmanship followed by dinner for an hour. After those two was 2 hours of meditation then sleep for 8 hours and it all begins the next day. The point of the extended training periods was to build endurance and vitality as well as hone pre-existing skills. He also informed Ryohei one another important fact about the training.
It would not wait for him, basically it meant he had to keep up or fall off. The training would be ten years long and happen everyday and if he could make it at the end he would be awarded. The reward was the title of a true master and the location of a blacksmith. The blacksmith made master swords, they were normal katana in essence but were made with high quality material. Ryohei accepted everything he was told and was ready to begin the training the next day.
The very next day he showed up still greatly injured and was pitted against Akio right away. Cock and sure of himself Ryohei accepted and thought he would overpower Akio easily. Akio made short work on him defeating him in less than 30 seconds. Ryohei was frustrated and confused, they were the same age yet he was so good. He felt as if he should be the best at everything because of his strength.
Confident it was a fluke he challenged Akio again and again got defeated. This went on for an hour of the training before the master put an end to it. He was impressed by Ryohei's bravery but saw it as a weakness in the long run. He also saw Ryohei's burning desire to become stronger and was very excited to train him. The long journey began that day and lasted many hard treacherous years.
Through the years of training Ryohei always came up second best behind Akio. The master clearly favored Akio and it was cause of conflict. Ryohei felt as if he was better than Akio and Akio rubbed it in his face that he wasn't. The feud between the two worried the master who tried to make them bond over the years but ultimately it only made their rivalry worse. The hatred Ryohei felt towards Akio was indescribable but he kept it suppressed for the most part.
Akio was the more speedy, technical opponent he rarely made the first move and if he did it always caught Ryohei by surprise. Ryohei however was the Stronger more strategic opponent. He often tried to overpower you if anything and if he couldn't win with brute strength he would think of a situation to get himself the win. Also Akio was the more disciplined of the two more calm, humble, and level headed than Ryohei. Ryohei on the other hand was undisciplined, cocky, and unhumble.
Years past and the more and more Akio grew in the non combat area the more and more the master favored him. It got to a point where the master would automatically side with Akio over Ryohei which gained him Ryohei's hate. Ryohei hid his hatred and acted as if he wanted to learn from Akio but in fact he hated him. When Ryohei and Akio were 18 they were informed by their master they only had three years left and he would choose his successor and bestow the titles of true masters on them both. They were both very excited and trained harder in those three years than they did in the past 7.
When they were both 21 they were again called to the master for the ceremony they were both waiting for. They would be titled true masters and one of them would get the great honor of being the successor. It was of course no contest and Akio was named successor to which Ryohei immediately disputed. The master foresaw this and responded accordingly to all the years he dealt with Ryohei. "Sit down you young fool." He said to Ryohei who refused.
"The past ten years I have carried you on my back and how do you repay me. I saved your life and you are undisciplined, cocky, and unhumble. You bring disgrace upon my name for the foolish mistake of mine it was for keeping you a student for as long as I did. Your body is hard and your mind sharper than any sword yet you will never be a master. I had great expectation and you failed not only me, but yourself as well. I refuse to give you the rank of a master and I refuse to acknowledge you as my student any longer."
With that Ryohei left without a word but returned a week later. It was a calm night with a full moon hanging in the air lighting the earth. Ryohei returned with intentions of revenge, he first tracked down the master. The old man knew he was coming, too old and weak to put up any real resistance he accepted his fate cursing his former student as he died. He then went after Akio the real source of his rejection. He found Akio walking alongside a beach looking out into the water.
He came up behind him and yelled "Akio turn around and face me, your master is dead and you will follow." Akio turned around to see his masters head at his feet. "How could you!" He yelled as his anger overtook him and he charged Ryohei. The two battled into the next days afternoon in which after hours of battling Ryohei finally came out on top. "Pathetic the old fool chooses you over me. His old teachings end with you his beloved Akio." Ryohei said standing over the beaten Akio .
He grabbed Akio by the collar and punched him one final time before stabbing him with his own sword. Akio still alive watched as Ryohei took the location of the blacksmith from him and left the island after setting it on fire. He rode the tides as the island burned behind him with the two who wronged him burned in a crimson flame. With the location of the blacksmith he sailed to him and requested a sword be made as he was the successor mentioned Akio. The blacksmith did as requested and finished his sword in a two days time.
Once the finished sword was in Ryohei's hands he killed the blacksmith so he could create no more swords. The blacksmiths apprentice he allowed to live of course went to the help of the Marines. He gave the name Akio to the Marines, a dead man. Upon obtaining his sword the words of the old man were still seared into his brain. He disappeared for two years to better himself and his technique.
After two years of training he emerged stronger. His technique was refined and much better, his attitude was different also. He was still a ruthless man but he was more calm and disciplined than the old him. All in all he changed for the better for him but for everyone else it was bad. After his two year hiatus he returned to his home island. There he rounded all the people up in the middle of town namely the old store owner. He burned him alive and watched as fear was burned into the onlookers hearts.
His screams of agony brought joy to Ryohei who just smirked and walked away. He set fire to the island and watched as people fled. Into the water they went but they had nowhere to go. Two days sail away from land Ryohei destroyed all their rafts, ships, and lifeboats before going into town. He watched as many burned and many more drowned. What happened there died with every man, woman, and child he watched die as if they were animals.
He figured the next logical choice to do for him was to become a pirate. He wanted to get back at the world and those in it. He wanted to strike fear into the hearts of the innocent and cut the hearts of the brave out of their chest. He set out on a small ship to achieve his goal but knew he would need help. He went in search of a crew and is now on the loose on the seas and is waiting for his time to strike.
