Name: Jake Cooney
Age:29
Bounty: 2.000.000
(For massive killing sprees, robbing and piracy, of course)
Species: Fishman (Tuna)
Occupation: whatever Guri does at the moment, former pirate
Allegiance: wherever Guri is, but a pirate at heart
Home Village/Ocean: South Blue
Appearance: Jake is an extremely tall Tuna fishman, standing at 2,55 m/ 8 feet 4 inches.
He's very muscular, with a broad chest. Although he's not the prettiest person to come by and can even look downright terrifying, he's actually a nice guy, and often wears a wide grin on his face. That, however, can look highly treating as well, as he exposes a row of very sharp teeth when opening his mouth. His skin is gray to silver, and his hair, which is now short and unkempt, is a very dark black. His eyes look like the eyes of a human, if not a little round, but are jetblack in colour.
(Sorry, no pictures drawn yet.)
History: Jakes early childhood consisted of much training, since his parents had high expectations of him becoming a Marine. His own dream was becoming a pirate, but, with his father being a Marine captain (one of the few fishman in the marine, no less!), that didn't proof to be easy. His mother was on his side, telling him to fullfill his dreams, though deep down he knew she just said that because she didn't take him seriously. But despite that, he loved both of them deeply and never wanted to hurt them in any way. Still, he knew he would shrivel and dry up inside if he had to sit behind a desk all day and look through the newest bountys, and maybe hunt a pirate when he saw one like his father did all day. Fighting what he wanted so much was never an alternative to him.
So one day, when he had just turned six, he snuck on a merchant ship which was just about to leave the port, and left without being recognised. His plan was to jump down at some point and swim to the next island on his own, where he'd then get a crew.
It didn't work out quite like that, though, as the ship he was on was hit by a storm. Something hit him on the head and he fell unconcious. He was then washed overboard. The next thing he remembered was that he was lying in a strange bed in a small room, and his head was in bandages.
It later turned out that he had been taken in by an old lady who had found him on the beach. She didn't have much money and her hut was in a less than favourable condition, but she had helped him anyway. Jake felt sorry that such a good person had become so poor and that no one would help her, so he promised he'd help her in any way possible. The next five years, he spend with her, repairing her hut, taking on small jobs, helping her with cooking, cleaning and everything he could, but still training in his free time. Even though the lady couldn't afford many things for Jake, like education, they had much fun and became a kind of weird family. They even had their own spot which Jake had discovered when he was collecting firewood: It was high up on a cliff, a perfect spot to watch the sunrise.
Time passed by, and the older Jake got, the more he forgot about wanting to be a pirate. Then, when he was ten and already the size of a grown up human and quite strong, the old lady got sick. He asked every Doctor on the island for help, but was alwys told that there was no cure. He spend as much time as he could sitting by her bed, talking to her or just watching over her quietly.
Then, one day, he woke up by her bed and noticed she was awake, watching the sun rise. When she noticed he was awake, she asked him to carry her to their spot on the cliff, because she wanted to see the sunrise from there one last time. Jake, who knew he couldn't do anything for her, carried her up there, and they watched the sun rise together. Then she died right by his side. It was the last time he cried.
After burying the old lady not far from the cliff, he noticed that he didn't know what to do now. The old lady had never had the money to get him an education and all he knew was how to fight. He didn't even know how to read and write properly ( and doesn't today either).
So he just went back to the hut. But staying there, with all the things reminding him of the lady, was impossible to him. That's when he remembered about his dream of becoming a pirate. The next day, he locked the hut and left, not taking anything with him. After all, there wasn't really anything else he could have done.
When he arrived at the port, it didn't take him long to find a pirate ship and he was hired right away, since Fishmen were always wanted on a ship.
The pirates he sailed with weren't the nice kind, and he took part in many battles, fair or unfair, even against innocent people who were just there. He hated killing those people, but he knew there was no turning back.
The years with the pirates were the worst of his life, but he never cursed himself for leaving his parents. After all, if he hadn't, he would never have met the old lady.
So he spent more than 15 years with the pirates, killing, destroying, plundering, and becoming much stronger, learning how to shoot and a bit of Fishman Karate from other crew members.
One day though, his crew went too far in his eyes. It was when they took a little girl, barely about six years old hostage to escape from the Marines. Jake could tolerate violence to a certain point, but he wouldn't let anyone harm a helpless little child. He let his emotions take the better of him and challenged his crewmates to a fight.
He wasn't easy to defeat, but he couldn't win against his whole crew, of course. They left him to die after that.
The Marines found him, of course, and arrested him.
Sitting in his cell, waiting to be executed, he met a young Fishman calling himself Guri. He was the adoptive son of the Marine Captain who had arrested him, but against all odds, the two became good friends.
One night, Guri freed him and since then, they have been travelling together.
Personality: Jake's a very quiet, yet friendly and patient person. He's almost always in good spirits and won't attack anyone unless he's provocated (which isn't easy), but if he does attack, he does it in a coldblooded manner. He will attack anyone when Guri tells him to, for some reason, he's extremely loyal to the young fishman (the only expactation to this are children, he wouldn't raise a hand against a child if his life depended on it, but possibly would if Guris life depended on it). He most likely has a soft spot for kids, or just the urge to protect those in need, or both. He trusts Guri with his life, and he knows Guri trusts him to the same level. Mostly, Jake's just there, watching over Guri a little, but actually not interfering much. There were many cases when he wouldn't interfere when Guri was attacked, as he believes that only experience can make his fosterling stronger. He acts as a last wall of defense mostly, interfering only when he feels it becomes too dangerous for Guri. In many ways, he's the father Guri lacks. Not the most intelligent person out there, but not the most stupid one either.
