Name: Carmen Espinosa
Age:21
Bounty: Never had the chance to get one
Species: Human
Occupation: chaperone, teacher for etiquette
Allegiance: Currently none
Home Village/Ocean: Grandline, later South Blue
Appearance: A girl of average size, with light skin and mud green, beautiful eyes, Carmen has a pretty face and a good figure. She's a graceful person in her own special way, even though she doesn't dress in a traditionally elegant way. To make it short, she's a punk. Normally, she wears short leather jackets with even shorter shirt under them. Her skirts are short as well, though she does wear fishnets under them.... Not that that helps conceal anything. As for shoes, she'll settle for combat boots.
Her hair is shaved completely off on the left side of her head, and green and wild on the right side. She has piercings in her lip, her eyebrow, and many, many in her ears. People wonder why she of all people became a chaperone, but the truth is that she has quite good manners.
History: Carmen was born to a merchant family. They weren't very rich yet, but they were far from poor, new upstarts who made more money every year. So she grew up in a protected environment with lots of rules to follow and etiquette to be kept. She learned from youth to be considerate, polite and thoughtful, to mind her manners and to not act rashly. She took those rules in, but unwillingly. She was a wild, brash, rebellious child which grew into a wild, rebellious teenager.
Her mother had died of sickness when she had been very young, and her father feared too much to lose her as well to do anything that could even remotely hurt her.
Her life changed when one day, her father didn't return from one of his journeys. She was told he had died, and that she'd live with friends of the family from now on. Those friends were nobles in South Blue, a large family with only one rival in prestige: Another large family, but not of nobles, but of commoners who had gotten rich and mighty so much they were worthy rivals for them. The war between them raged over intrigues and blood revenge, but Carmen wasn't really a part of it. It was clear she didn't fit in, and after all, she had only two more years to live with them until she could decide what to do on her own. But still, she wanted to make those two years as comfortable as possible. And she soon learned that most people weren't as happy to spoil her as her father. Her foster family was strict and had to follow the rules of high society and so did she.
She never even remotely liked them, but she followed their rules, and she got used to being polite, even though they could never get her to dress “like a lady“, as they called it.
Soon, it was decied that she could stay even after she was eightteen, but only if she, as she had a good grip on etiquette and was a strict, but incredible teacher when it came to them, would become a chaperone for their oldest son, a paranoid young man named Daniel. She agreed to it, the payment was good, she would have a house, and Daniel was easy to handle.
She served them for thenext three years, until the permanent danger in which he saw himself finally pushed Daniel over the edge and made him go really crazy. He wouldn't sleep at night, for fear of being murdered while being so vulnerable, and didn't eat his food anymore. It was clear that he wouldn't make it for much longer, and so Carmen decided to carefully hint to him that he should just get a method of protecting himself. He took the idea up quickly, and about a week later, he had a new weapon: Dahlia, the snake sword, made by combining a devil fruit with a weapon.
It was the mightiest weapon Carmen had ever laid eyes on, and since she had been plaing with hte thought of leaving the family anyway, she saw a perfect chance to do so with a lot of might in her hands.
But no matter how much she tried, she couldn't bring herself to kill Daniel, which is what she had to do to get the sword. The blacksmith had made it so that it could only be wielded by someone who had defeated its former owner, or if it was given out of free will.
So Carmen took the last option she had and hired the best assassin she could afford: Alvaro Del Bosque, an excentric man who gladly took the opportunity, since he had been offered another job with the same victim, but other intentions already, and why not combine two jobs into one and get the reward for both? His mission was simple: Kill Daniel, then give Dahlia to her.
And he did as he was told, gladly, for all the money she could muster up. Unfortunately for them, the man behind the other mission had set them up as a scapegoat, and she was caught three days later, when she had tried to leave the country. The assassin followed another five weeks later, when he had been found in East Blue. Killing a noble in that position hadn't been the best idea, and the government had been very upset about it.
Ever since then, she's been in Impel Down, just waiting to be executed. But fate has other plans for her, it seems...
Personality: Carmen is polite most of the time, a calm girl and a great thinker. She knows about honour, and she knows about manners. She uses both very well, manners on her part, honour in others. She's very manipulative in doing so. It's not like Carmen is downright evil, or sadistic, or enjoys playing with peoples feelings, but she knows how to get the biggest profit possible in any situation. She's a survivalist, that's what she is. Her actions are always very well thought through, and she owes loyalty to no one. But she's also very, very greedy for might, which is why she took
the risk to steal the sword even though she knew where it'd lead.
Rules are important to her, but she only follows the ones that'll help her. All the others are quietly ignored. In extreme situations, she can be very aggressive, bloodthirsty even, but she never loses sight of the situation, and always thinks all her options through before taking action.
