PostSubject: Barius "The Cleaner" Grant   Barius "The Cleaner" Grant Icon_minitimeTue Jul 20, 2010 3:49 pm

Name: Barius “The Cleaner” Grant
Age: 39
Bounty: 80,000,000 Belli
Species: Human
Occupation: Pirate, First Division Commander/Navigator

Allegiance: The Ice Blood Pirates

Home Village/Ocean: Dolphin Island, West Sea

Appearance: He is a 6’4’’ man, brown eyed, broad chest, muscled, with a natural golden brown tan from all his time at sea, and full set of shoulder-length black hair tied in a red ribbon. Scars: From top to bottom: He has a scar in his right eye, leaving it permanently closed, and a gold piercing on each ear. Next he has a tattoo of two black fists encircled in a metallic silver circle on his left arm, representing his former Captain “Iron Fist” Bardos, and in his right arm was tattooed an intricate Crimson Snowflake that now represents him as one of the Ice Blood Pirates and his loyalty to the new Captain “Crimson Snow” Bardos (Delia). His last tattoo is that of a parcel with the name “Sophie” printed on it in cursive, and the copy of his first map ever made of his home under it, a constant reminder of what he has to protect. His outfit from top to bottom: A black cowboy hat sits comfortably on his red bandanna wrapped head, a red feather sticking out from it. He wears a brown button-up vest with a white fur collar/cuffs over a black long-sleeved shirt. Finally, he wears lose dark blue pants hold together with a black belt and a large, oval golden buckle, a snowflake-shaped ruby resting in the center, and steel-toed black boots that can pack a kick.

History:

Barius was born on August 16 on Dolphin Island, named after its dolphin shape and the dolphin migrations that happened every summer, the weather being a calm, sunny one. Not much is known of him from his earlier years, just that he passed them in an orphanage, no one knowing where his mother disappeared to after she gave birth to him. He grew up to be a good eight-year-old kid though, helping the couple running the orphanage with the younger kids, always watching out for them with the rest of the kids his age. It was a shame though that for such a kind-hearted boy, no one would want to adopt him…

He decided to leave the orphanage at the age of ten, choosing to at least try his luck with Hughes, a 36-year-old fisherman that worked by the old docks. At that time, Barius wanted to know what he was good for, and his love for the sea gave him courage to look for Hughes, even ignoring the rumors of the man being responsible for the death of his wife. He knew that his wife died by the hands of the sea, her own fault for not following her husband’s warning of a tidal wave coming in that night. Anyway, as he was making his way to the old man’s home, he was already thinking of the many things that he would teach him, and how he could see himself fishing in the big blue, feeling the breeze in his face, and smelling the salty, fresh air…

It took him over one year to convince Old Man Hughes to take him in as his apprentice. The old man was just a tough nut to crack: Whenever Barius went to his house to request for him to be his teacher, he would attack him with no mercy, the boy leaving with bruises and deep cuts. He started going soft on him when he would see more of himself in the boy in his younger days, now just fighting him to see how strong the kid was. When the year passed and Barius came back, Hughes gave him a proposition: He said that he will take him up as his apprentice, teach him everything he knew about fishing and the sea, if he promises to use his skills in the future for the sake of the people. Barius agreed right away, not knowing at that time how hard it was to keep promises…

An 14-year-old Barius was in his room, only lit by a small candle in his desk, papers and maps draped all over the surface. He was running a hand through his hair and adjusting his glasses, desperate to finish the maps that he had promised his old teacher by tomorrow afternoon. You see, not only was Hughes an experienced fisherman, he was also a mapmaker, and one of the best in the island, helping navigators and younger fishermen in making them maps for places with the best catch or places to explore for money. As soon as Mr. Hughes was finished teaching him everything he knew about fishing and navigating to Barius, he gave him blank parcels and Logs from his previous navigations, and was now teaching him how to read them properly, and to graph the coordinates appropriately in a map. So far so good, for what Barius was getting paid to make maps, he was sure looking forward to a bright future…

It has been 8 years since Barius joined the Wrought Iron Pirates as their navigator, who were lead by Captain “Iron Fist” Bardos. The reason he had joined in the first place was because of an accident, for you see it all happened when the young boy fell in love…with the captain’s daughter. Yep, the captain had another daughter besides Delia, and her name was Sophia “Crazy Kat” Clearwater Bardos, already a fine pirate at the age of 14 years old, and her father’s second in command. They had landed in Dolphin Island only to resupply, meaning no harm to the people of the village, them knowing this, and actually helping out the respected Captain. While her father supervised the supplies that were being carried back to the ship, the young Bardos went to Barius and Hughes’ shop, which the young man had convinced the old man to construct just five years ago.

As she entered the shop, the little bell ringing when it was hit by the door, she was welcomed by Hughes, asking if she needed any help. She requested that if he could make her some maps with the Logs and coordinates that she had, and was surprised when he said no. She was shocked when he said that he was unable to do maps anymore because he wouldn’t like to make mistakes on a map, much less a pirate’s, but was relieved when he said that his assistant was the one who was able to do her maps. As he called him to come over from the back, Barius appeared with parcels and maps piled up in his hands, a pencil placed in his mouth. He let them all drop when he placed his eyes on the young woman, surprised to see such a beautiful young lady in their shop, much less knowing that she was a pirate. She was also in a stupor when she saw the young handsome man coming out from the back, but snapped out of it when the old man started shouting at him for dropping the newly-made maps, shielding himself when the old coot who was hitting him with a rolled up map. He was smiling though, because before he could go back making the maps she needed, he was able to notice a slight blush and smile coming from her radiant face…

You might be wondering what was the accident in all this, well, the accident was them falling in love with each other in the first place, for her father didn’t approve of this. After a few days of staying in the island, he noticed how attached she was getting with the young mapmaker. He said that she should only focus on following through his footsteps, and getting ready for when she had to take over his legacy. At this Sophia was furious, and ignored her father’s warnings, going back to Barius one night, and deciding to stay with him and leave her father to explore by himself. That never happened, for in the day that they had to leave again, Bardos had threatened Barius that if his daughter didn’t return with him, that he would raid and ravage the village, leaving no one alive. This angered Sophia more, and tried to reason with her father, but was stopped by Barius, who agreed with the Captain. He also offered to accompany him in his travels as his navigator, knowing that he had done a great job on the maps that he had made for them. Bardos complied, but made it clear that he didn’t want his daughter and new navigator anywhere near each other during their voyage…

A 22-year-old Barius was now fighting in his captain’s home village of Bardos, slashing away at the naval officers that were sent here to capture the captain’s wife and newly born daughter. He poured his heart and soul for defending the newborn, for he would never forgive himself if harm came to the sister of his beloved. They were able to make them back away and eventually retreat, but not without the cost of his right eye, earning him a scar that he could not erase. He ignored that and was relieved that the baby and mother were all right, surprised at how different the baby looked from her older sibling. Barius himself never thought about having children with Sophia, but that would be a story for another time (Sophia’s Profile). The baby’s name, Delia, was a very…quiet infant, not even crying when she was born, or from the fight that occurred right after. Even after one year not a sound or word came from her small mouth, worrying her parents, sister, and even Barius, who had grown attached at the young girl. Fortunately the silence was broken when she whispered his name while holding her, shocked at why his name was the first word she had ever said, but content when she actually said something for the first time…

Three more years passed, and he now saw that even though Sophia’s younger sister was so different, she held the same shine in her eyes as her sister when her father would tell her about his voyages, and started teaching her at the age of four.

By the age of five, and she was now going with them on a voyage of her own, Sophia staying with her mother behind, saying that she would like to take a break for once. He felt an uneasy feeling for leaving her behind, but thought nothing of it and shrugging it off, not knowing the consequences that would bring later…

He was devastated when they returned to a village up in flames, the villagers screaming in pain and agony, homes being burned to the ground. What hurt him more was watching the same naval officers they had fought at the day of Delia’s birth doing all of this, and they weren’t there to stop them. All of that pain and grief he felt doubled when he noticed the body of his captain’s wife staked and burned, and tears threatening to spill out when his captain jumped out of the ship and charged out of rage, killed the second he had set foot in the island. Next he felt enraged when they suddenly left, not even trying to fight them, like the rats they were. They suddenly disembarked, looking to see if there were any survivors, which were few. He was shocked with relief that Sophia was one of the survivors, telling him that her mother had knocked her out and hid her in a room under their house.

He wanted to stay with her more, but then suddenly remembered Delia, who was now going to the direction of the Hidden chamber that held the sword that had resulted in Sophia’s loss of her hand: The Wailing Ice Princess. He caught up to her before she entered the cave. As they both entered, he explained to her the frozen bodies that were intact or shattered in the ground were the ones who tried to obtain the sword, and died in the process…

He was now second in command of the Konayuki Hime, which happens to be Delia’s ship, and his new captain. He was also the one who cleaned up after her when she would rarely forget something behind, giving him the name “The Cleaner”, and also her voice, talking for her in public places.

It had been five years since she had taken revenge on her family, picking her up after her deed was done. He was still shocked at how…unique she was, not really able to believe that she was able to destroy a whole naval base by herself.

They are now on the move, with now hefty bounties on both of their heads, since they were recognized before they left by survivors, trying to avoid as much trouble as possible, sometimes not helping, having to fight their way out of situations. It helped that his wife and Delia’s sister took up her father’s ship, and made herself the captain, just like her father wanted, and since Delia had a ship for herself, it was better not to let it go to waste.

Personality: Barius is a very reserved man, only talking when he needs to, and when he needs to talk for Delia, since her voice never fully developed, and trusts only the crew and himself, mostly himself since he is always by her side. Would not hesitate to attack anyone who would get close to his captain, and even kill if they try to harm her. His loyalty doesn’t stop with her though, protecting the ones younger and less experienced than him from the crew.

Ship: Konayuki Hime

Ship Flag:

Devil Fruit: None

Special Abilities:

-Experienced Mapmaker and Navigator(Cartographer)
-Fluid in the art of sword fighting
-Skilled Fisherman
-Information gatherer

Learned Techniques (Keep it 1-25):

Sword techniques:

-Lightning Rod Strike: What he does is that he waits for the attacker who uses lightning as his source of attack to strike, and the sword “absorbs” the attack. Then, he slashes down on the attacker, not only making a gash, but also sending bolts of electricity into it. Completely useless if there is no electricity in the blade.
-Lightning Rod: This only absorbs electricity into the sword. The electricity can be absorbed from anything that uses it.
-Year of the Dragon: His ultimate attack. What he does is that with all the lightning stored in the blade, plus the power of the scale, the slash transforms into a Lightning Dragon, its destroying limit being that of medium-sized ships.

Other than that, his attacks are common.

Weapons/Items:

Weapons: https://theonepiecerp.rpg-board.net/weapons-are-here-f3/wrought-iron-dragon-t2324.htm#45813

Items:

-Hughes’ Lucky Pole: A fishing pole given to him by the old man, used in catching fish, and always is able to, no matter how barren the sea they are is.
-The three Ps: Paper, Pencil, and Parcel
-Spyglass Telescope: a brass scope he keeps on his belt always. Unlike other scopes, this one is invaluable, for it is also a puzzle to locating the treasure of the Ice Princess (Konayuki).

Goals: Help Delia into reaching her own goals, as well as to reach the Grand Line and to be able to fish in its waters, as well as map them accordingly.

The weapon still needs approval, but if it isn't approved, then I will change it then.
