| This will be an experimental game, played in the form of a text-based adventure game. In essence, it will be played like this; I will post something, and you will have to give the character (AKA me) a command, and I will write the next update. Things will continue like this until we've won. What's the goal of the game? You'll find out as we play! All individual updates will be placed in spoilers, with the action "> Action" proceeding the spoiler box to denote the contents of the box. To start, we will begin with this: >Press Start. - Press Start:
A young man sits in his room on the day of his coming of age. Though he was born years ago, he has never been given a proper name. It is about time he was given a name, at least one we can use to refer to him specifically.
What shall we call him?
>Enter name. - Enter name:
MARTIN SANDERS
Your name is Martin Sanders, and you've just come of age. You have a bit of a penchant for HISTORY, which is actually pretty convenient because your GRANDFATHER happens to own a rather bizarre ANTIQUE SHOP. You live with your GRANDFATHER now because your parents DIED not long after you were born. You for some reason DON'T MIND THAT MUCH, because your GRANDFATHER is one of the most awesome people you've ever known.
Besides history, you also have a large amount of interest in the MARTIAL ARTS, and your GRANDFATHER took note of this, enabling you to go to LESSONS since you were young. Thanks to this, your body is rather athletic, and you are no stranger to STRENUOUS ACTIVITY. You also have an interest in PARANORMAL OCCURRENCES, though you know for a fact MAGIC DOESN'T EXIST. Though, you WISH this WASN'T THE CASE.
You haven't even had breakfast yet, though it's unsurprising considering it's still MORNING. If you wanted food, you could probably get something in the KITCHEN, located on the BOTTOM FLOOR of your HOUSE, in the room behind the STOREFRONT. That ANTIQUE SHOP mentioned before happens to double as your HOUSE.
Right now, in your room, there isn't much. Your room is rather BARE, containing at best a DESK, a BED, and a CHEST OF DRAWERS for holding your things. There is a BIZARRE PACKAGE sitting on your desk, with a small piece of paper on top of it. You're very glad your room has a ton of WINDOWS, which let you be able to see what's going on in your room.
What will you do?
>Martin: Check package. - Martin: Check package:
Might as well find out what this thing is on your desk before heading on downstairs to make some breakfast. Maybe you'll have the MATERIALS necessary to make PANCAKES. Or WAFFLES. One of the two.
You head over to your DESK and examine the package. It's wrapped up in plain brown paper, with a note placed on the top. From a glance, you can recognize your GRANDFATHER'S handwriting. You pick up the note that reads:
"Congratulations, grandson, on your coming of age. Remember to keep yourself safe, and keep everything in moderation. I hope this present will be sufficient for the continuation of your interests."
The gift is small, and you wonder what it is.
>Martin: Open package. - Martin: Open package:
You open the package, wondering what it could have been your GRANDFATHER left inside.
Inside the package was a pair of leather gloves, with surprisingly well padded knuckles. Your GRANDFATHER must have remembered you mentioning how much it hurt when you punched something with all your strength. Now, at least, it shouldn't hurt too much when you punch at something.
>Martin: Take gloves downstairs. - Martin: Take gloves downstairs:
You put on the gloves, appreciative of your GRANDFATHER'S thoughtfulness. It's about time you went downstairs to get something to eat, and finally got going today. You wonder where your GRANDFATHER is for a moment, but quickly dismiss the question. He tends to go off to do things at unusual hours.
Quickly moving through the UPSTAIRS HALL separating your BEDROOM from the MASTER BEDROOM and the BATHROOM, you head to the narrow STAIRCASE to the first floor. It opens into the KITCHEN, a comparatively small room to the STOREFRONT. In the KITCHEN, there is an ICEBOX, a few CABINETS for dish storage, the CLOSET containing dry food items, a FIREPIT due to your GRANDFATHER'S eccentric taste for fire-cooked food, and a TABLE in the center of the KITCHEN, set for TWO as always. On your place is yet another NOTE, and the door to the STOREFRONT is closed like usual.
Hanging on the WALL is a painting of your GRANDFATHER and his own parents, two people you remember him explaining as two of the LEAST LIKELY PEOPLE to fall in love. They were supposedly ALWAYS FIGHTING. You wonder if it was the truth, because your GRANDFATHER had a tendency to EMBELLISH THE FACTS a bit. >Martin: Throw gloves at painting.- Martin: Throw gloves at painting:
Well, this is one of your more stupid ideas. You remove your gloves and chuck them at the painting. The frame rattles a bit, the metallic ridges bumping against something and making a ruckus. >Martin: Check behind painting.- Martin: Check behind painting:
Oh, yeah, that's your GRANDFATHER'S SAFE. You know it's been there for ages, and it's apparently where your GRANDFATHER keeps all his SWEET LOOT. You actually know it's totally empty, because your GRANDFATHER barely makes a living. You really should consider doing some work to help him out, but there's nothing you can really do. It really is a pity. You also have no idea what the code is, but if you found out somehow, you're pretty sure anything you put in it would be totally safe. >Martin: Check icebox.- Martin: Check icebox:
This is where your GRANDFATHER keeps all the perishables, and from the looks of it there isn't much inside. There's a couple ORANGES, a few APPLES, some LETTUCE and TOMATOES, and what seems to be a bit of CELERY. You suppose you could use this stuff for breakfast if you felt so inclined, but you still don't know what is in the CLOSET, so you don't necessarily think you'll jump to any conclusions.
You have no idea what your GRANDFATHER buys on his grocery trips anyway, so you don't ever know what sort of food's available in the house. You're normally off at a learning center or training with your MARTIAL ARTS, so the daily goings-on of the house and store are a bit of a mystery to you.

| Dead on, Rodo. I wanted to try to have fun with this and do something in an episodic format, plus I had no idea how to write something about the topic I wanted to in a logical manner, so this was the best alternative. | |

| Three sequential updates have been finished, and a new habit of mine is going to be to bold whichever updates are newest, so those who plan to follow this can follow the sequence of events more easily. I also apologize for the delay. | |

| Another triad of updates, again bolded to help your discerning eyes. This is of course just the introductory segment, and I'll be hopefully changing up the focus shortly and introducing new characters. The speed with which that happens is, of course, up to you. | |
