Name: Dr. Baron Placebo

Age: 45

Bounty: Non, Marine

Species: Human (Barely)

Occupation: Doctor, Marine Commander

Allegiance: Marines

Home Village/Ocean: North Blue, Glasgow Island

Appearance: As a result of his unique transplant and it's following side effects, Baron only resembles a human in shape. He is 1.80 meters tall, but is usually hunched over as a result of many hours of lab work, making him shorter. He is incredibly thin, a result of him almost starving himself for the sake of more research time. Baron's facial features are deformed, his skin has stretch marks and his mouth is stretched to the sides, making it seem like he is constantly baring a mad smile. On his forehead, Baron has two large devil-like horns that act like Den Den Mushi antennas for his communication lobe. The back of his head is slightly longer than usual, as a result of the extra room that is needed for the lobe. His black hair goes all the way down to his upper back, and is usually messy and hideous. Baron wears a pair of round glasses over his red eyes.
Baron wears a set of marine uniform over himself, and an additional white lab coat that reached his knees. On his hands, Baron wears a pair of purple rubber gloves.

History: Baron was born as a perfectly normal boy in the winter island known as Glasgow island. The thing that made Glasgow island unique, was it's overflowing population of the most mysterious animal in the world, also known as the Den den Mushi. The island was the perfect ground for Den Den Mushi mating, and as a result, it was the home of hundreds of Den Den Mushis of all kinds and sizes. These snails, thanks to the ever rising need for rapid communication, earned the living of most of the island's population. Many families of Glasgow island had Den Den Mushi farms, specializing in the breeding of the infamous snails and the exporting of them to various branches, mostly marines.

Ever since he could remember himself, Baron was always interested in mysteries, such as why the sun rises on the same side of the island everyday, or why were all leaves green, but while most of his questions had obvious and certain answers, one of them was left untouched: How do the Den Den Mushi work? Even though the island was dependent on the mysterious snails, no one could answer Baron's question, not even the richest Den Den Mushi breeders of the island. The question without an answer kept Baron's mind busy through his entire childhood, he spent his time around den Den Mushis, studied Den Den Mushis, observed Den Den Mushis and even dissected Den Den Mushi corpses, abandoning all kinds of social life. His strange behavior, that was only a byproduct of his endless curiosity, earned him the nickname "Snail Freak" around the entire island.

Baron didn't appreciate the mocking nicknames and heartless taunts of the islanders, he was desperate to solve the mystery and mock them all for not helping his cause, but as he got older, he realized that the mystery could not be solved with the thin resources and amount of support that he had on Glasgow island, he had to look for an answer elsewhere. And so, at the age of 18, Baron departed from Glasgow island on a small boat, heading for the only place that could satisfy his needs. He reached the main marine base of the North Blue, and after presenting his long research and knowledge of Den Den Mushi communication, earned himself a one way trip to the Grand Line, where he'll be taught by the brightest marine doctors.

Baron spent the next 10 years studying everything there was to know about biology, medicine and genetics, using every resource the marines could give him. As an absolute prodigy in the field of Den Den Mushi communication, the marines wished to use Baron's knowledge and enthusiasm for the sake of their communication capabilities. After completing his long years of studying, Baron was sent back to Glasgow island, the perfect place for his research, along with a dozen of his students, to complete his research and find the answer he was looking for. Unfortunately, as he got back to island, he didn't find what he expected to find. Even though he had the marine's full support, none of the people who doubted him before changed their minds. In their eyes, he spent the last 10 years doing absolutely nothing, he didn't find the answer, and therefore he accomplished nothing. In fact, they mocked him even harder than before, not even holding their laughter as he passed next to them.

The islander's behavior was simply unacceptable in Baron's eyes, he had to prove them wrong, he had to show them just how successful and productive his research was, he had to make them pay. That very thought, was the first step to insanity for Baron. After getting his research facility up, Baron didn't leave it for a second. He spent every waking moment studying the Den Den Mushi until he finally did it, he managed to break down the Den Den Mushi mind, he found the answer he was looking for. But that wasn't enough anymore, the answer would mean nothing to the islanders, he had to accomplish more. As the mocking cranked Baron's insanity a step further, he decided to not report his findings, so he could keep the facility open. He started jotting down a plan, using his endless knowledge of the brain to plan a surgery that will make him a walking legend for marines and the islanders alike.

As his final step towards glory, Baron used the help of his dozen students to perform brain surgery on himself. The students had full trust in Baron, who was their genius mentor, and followed his surgery plans step by step. With dozen marine doctors, and Baron's planning, the surgery was bound to succeed. When Baron woke up, he was no longer a normal human, he was his own masterpiece: A human with a Den Den Mushi brain lobe! He presented himself to his superiors, which were both horrified and glad at the same time, Baron's research had better results than they could ever imagine, a radio-communicating human! The Glasgow facility was closed, but Baron received a new facility at the Grand Line, where he could continue his research as the first Telepathic human.

As the years progressed Baron turned into a monster. Even though the surgery was successful, Baron's psych took a serious blow which contributed to his insanity, making him a literally mad scientist. He had to consume special drugs to maintain the lobe's activity until he could finally control it, and go through more transplants to make the lobe actually operational, turning him into a deformed freak. After finally mastering his new brain, Baron performed a second lobe transplant on a new subject: While humans were banned from going through the surgery until it was perfected, Baron chose the closest thing he could find, a gorilla. The gorilla, which Baron named Archimedes, was enhanced by IQ in order to boost it's mental capacity, and went through the transplant without any complications, turning into Baron's personal pet, slave and weapon.

Thanks to his impressive achievements in the medical field, Baron received several marine ranks, reaching to the Commander rank when he was 40 years old. He went through several marine training routines as a part of the marines, which boosted his physical skills. With his training, and his unique Den Den Mushi abilities, Baron could leave his laboratory and take part in actual marine crews, though he was still focused on his continuing research.

Personality: Baron started off as a simple over-curious kid, but his curiosity soon turned into an unhealthy need for acceptance and appreciation. Unfortunately, his life-long study wasn't enough to earn him the respect he looked for, which lead to the complete wreckage of his sanity. Eventually, Baron turned into a mad, obsessed being, with almost nothing in his head other than plans for insane experiments and a radio-transmitting brain lobe. He has next to no appreciation towards social life and interpersonal communication, with the closest thing he has to a friend is his pet gorilla, which he controls with his mind. Normally, Baron would spend his time either experimenting with medical drugs and injections or listening to random radio broadcasts. He pretty much sees people, animals and plants as nothing but test subjects, nothing more and nothing less. The only reason why he is loyal to the marines is because of the research funds they shower him with, and he would have probably been as loyal to any other pirate who offered him such funds.

Ship: name of ship

Ship Flag: describe

Devil Fruit: None
Type:
Effect:

Special Abilities:

Radio Mind: Baron has a Den Den Mushi brain lobe transplanted in his brain. That lobe, along with the horn-like antennas on his forehead, allows him to act as a radio receiver and transmitter, just like a humanoid Den Den Mushi. With this feature, Baron gains several abilities. Baron can hear Den Den Mushi broadcasts from a 1 kilometer radius around him in his head. In addition, Baron can also transmit his own thoughts to other Den Den Mushis via radio waves. The radio waves that Baron can produce have no effect on any life form that can't receive radio waves, which means it has no effect on humans at all. After mastering his brain lobe, Baron can choose to activate and deactivate these two abilities at will. thanks to the relative strength of his lobe, he can transmit in a variety of wavelengths, which allows him to gain priority over most Den Den Mushis and make him capable of hijacking almost all Den Den Mushi broadcasts. While his abilities are active, Baron is vulnerable to radio waves, and if he is facing a big amount of broadcasts his abilities are disoriented, and he will experience a piercing headache.

Medical Expert: Baron went through 10 years of medical studies, and additional 17 years of medical research. He is an expert in both medicine and biology, and can perform anything from basic stitching to invasive surgery. He is capable of synthesizing various medical drugs, and can diagnose most illnesses.

Marine Training: Even though Baron's strong side is in his head, his body isn't as useless as it seems thanks to a few years of marine training. He has the physical prowess of a mediocre martial artist, including above-average speed and acrobatic skills, relatively powerful upper body strength and mediocre reflexes.

Learned Techniques (Keep it 1-25):

Whiteout: Baron will transmit a powerful broadcast of white noise, making all Den Den Mushi in a 1 kilometer radius go down. This technique deals a splitting headache to any animal that is capable of receiving radio waves, including all Den Den Mushis and Archimedes if tuned to the right wavelength.

Rise!: Baron will chant the techniques name and will often add a dramatic hand gesture, creating the "It's alive!" effect. Afterwards, Baron will gain full control of Archimedes' actions. This is Baron's main fighting style: While he is supplying the brains, Archimedes takes care of the brawn, making the two a fearsome dynamic duo.

Brainless Bulldozer!: Baron will command Archimedes to storm forward, smashing and piercing anything in his path with his massive size and unbelievable weight. With the addition of Tekkai Kenpo, this attack becomes more effective, but slower.

Brainless Blocker!: Under Baron's control, Archimedes will cross his thick arms in front of his body before using Tekkai to harden himself, intercepting and blocking whatever attack that threatens his master.

Weapons/Items: Archimedes

Character Flaws: Baron has almost no social skills. He fails to see animals and people as living beings, and considers them as simple test subjects.

Goals:
  • Continue his research.
  • Form an army of animal minions and take his revenge against the people of Glasgow island.
