The lower half of his face (nose and mouth) as well as his neck is hidden by a black mask. Though partly unseen, his face can be described as beautiful. He wears a long-sleeved black shirt that and long black pants that cover the back of his shoes. He wears black dress shoes. A white Short-sleeved coat that runs to just above his shoes is worn over his clothes. The coat has no buttons so the front of his black attire can always be seen. On the back of the coat there is a symbol consisting of a black circle with two white lines that pass through it in the same direction (top-right to bottom-left). He always has a violin case with him. There is a secret compartment inside of the violin case in which he stored a 2-foot long wakizashi. Uta is left handed so when using this sword he holds it with his left hand.
History: Uta was born on XXXXX island, a small island a few miles off the coast of the country XXXXX. His father was a professional traveling musician and his mother was the 8th head of the Ichiho kenjutsu school. This specific sword style places great emphasis on using as few unnecessary movements possible while achieving greater speeds and stronger strikes. As the destined heir of the Ichiho school, Uta was trained to be a swordsman as a young child. As such, Uta grew up with a greater sense of discipline. Uta’s father returned home from traveling once every 2 or 3 months and each time he returned, he gave Uta a different instrument from a country he visited. Wanting to impress his father, Uta practiced the instruments whenever he had free time and performed a song for his father whenever he returned.
By the age of 17 Uta had mastered Ichiho Kenjutsu and became known as a prodigy. He had also become adept with many instruments though he only truly mastered the violin. Now there was a small Marine base on the island that Uta lived on. A News Coo would often fly towards the base with newspapers and new wanted posters. One day while practicing his sword swings in the forest Uta saw a News Coo carrying a box. Suddenly, the bird was shot down though he didn’t know from where. Uta began to run into the forest to where the News Coo had fallen.
When he arrived at his destination Uta found the dead bird and the remains of the box. Inside of the box was a strange pink object that resembled a banana. He instantly recognized the object as a Devil Fruit. Pirates often appeared in the news along with the feats of those with devil fruit abilities. Uta then proceeded to consume it only to soon after begin to gag because of the taste. Whether or not he had acquired an ability did not matter to him when he saw smoke rising in the direction of the island’s only harbor. Immediately Uta began to run hack to the town.
A fleet of pirate ships had arrived at the harbor and was laying waste to the town. The marines at the base had not received any intel of an incoming attack and thus was only beginning to assemble. Smoke rose as the pirates pillaged and killed the residents of the town. Uta had returned home but saw no one there. Quickly, he ran throughout the house and searched for his mother or even a household maid. Realizing that everyone in his house had been safely evacuated Uta made his way back to the front door only to be met by a pirate carrying a katana. Uta quickly looked around for a weapon but could not find one. He decided to fight the pirate using only his fists but was unable to make contact due to the sword proficiency of the pirate. With a giant swing with the blunt side of the sword, Uta was knocked to the ground. “Face it kid,” the pirate sneered, “when we’re done none of ya on this island will be left alive.” Fear suddenly coursed through his veins and with a defiant shout Uta slammed both of his fists into the floor. At that moment something peculiar happened. Uta’s house began to fall apart; it did not shake, it did not creek. His house merely began to crumble and collapse on both Uta and the pirate. Uta knew his own home better than the pirate and made it out though the back door. The pirate, however, retreated to the front door when suddenly the floor gave out under him and he fell into the cellar with hundreds of pounds of rubble piled up on top of him. That was the day Uta and his devil fruit became one.
At the town square, the marines were having a shoot-out with the pirates. Suddenly, Uta’s mother begins to walk towards the pirates from behind. Before they knew it, 12 pirates had fallen victim to the Ichiho style. They were frightened by the deadly woman they had never seen before but were not dumb enough to challenge her. They began to back off and slowly retreat towards the dock.
There was a new recruit at the marine headquarters that day. He was from the mainland so he was not versed in the ways of the island. Being the last to make it from the base to the square he did not know who the mysterious woman with the katana was or why there were pirates behind her. All that he understood was that the woman was not a marine. The young recruit pointed his rifle toward her head and fired.
Uta’s mother successfully deflected the shot from the recruit and the young man was immediately grabbed by his seniors. Regardless a bullet passed through her heart, and this one came from the direction of the pirates. Uta witnessed all of this while running towards his mother. He saw a sniper and his oddly augmented rifle and identified him as the slayer of both his mother and the News Coo carrying the treasure that would never make it to its intended recipient. Filled with a sudden rage, Uta picked up the Katana his now-deceased mother had dropped and rushed toward the sniper while being called back by the marines. Several shots were made by the sniper but Uta’s experience in sparring with the fastest sword-style ever known had raised his reflexes to such a level that dodging the bullets while charging at the sniper head-first was no problem. In a few seconds, Uta was meters away from the sniper. Anticipating a thrust, the sniper held his rifle to his chest to try and parry the attack. The sniper’s intuition proved to be true. He did not, however, anticipate that the strength of such a thrust made by one putting all his might into his legs and nearly flying towards his opponent. The katana pierced the rifle and passed through the heart of the sniper, instantly killing him. Realizing that he couldn’t unlodge the katana from the rifle, Uta snapped the head of the sword off, leaving only a 20 inch blade attached to the hilt.
Almost every resident of the island, including many marines, attended the funeral for Uta’s mother. Halfway through the ceremony, a beautiful noised reached the ears of all in attendance. Several looked around to identify the source and immediately saw Uta playing his violin from the roof of the town hall. The melody was beautifully and the air around the mourners seemed like it was singing. When the song ended, the residents, especially the marines in attendance, were shocked to hear that Uta charged into the marine based carrying a broken katana in his left hand and a violin case in the other, killed several marines, razed the base to the ground, sunk three marine battleships, and commandeered the last battleship. From that day on, wanted posters were made out for Uta “the Muse” Ichiho.
Uta would then abandon the marine vessel upon reaching the mainland where the first thing he does is ask a swordsmith to take his mother’s broken katana and refine it to become a wakizashi. He would then traverse the four Blues hitching rides on several different merchant vessels in exchange for his protection. One day while passing by the island of Jaya, a ship carrying a full crew fell from the sky into the sea and is destroyed by the impact, killing everyone on board. Several treasures soon fell from the sky, likely objects that flew off of the ship when it was falling. Uta picked up two small seashells that when pressed, emit a small but unlimited current of air. Inspired by the versatility of his devil fruit abilities, he hides the shells as he plans to use them sometime in the future. Not until he reaches the Sabaody Archipelago does he begin to don a mask that covers his nose and mouth.
