My Poem

“You can’t”
You can’t, you don’t, you never will.
No matter how hard I try, for all the tears I cry,

You can’t, you don’t, you never will.
You are just a friend, to every end,
For each wish nothing more,
Your heart is but a closed door,

You can’t, you don’t, you never will.
Shame and sadness, all this maybe madness,
Is it wrong that I want you?
Do you feel the way I do?

You can’t, you don’t, you never will.
I want to fight it, but I can’t hide it,
Once again these thoughts reappear,
All my foolish feelings persevere,
I know it will never work,
I am such a selfish jerk,

You can’t, you don’t, you never will.
Of all the things I have never said,
There is one that has stayed in my head,
I remember the things we’ve done
All the laughter, all the fun
Despite my dreams,
For sure it seems,
You can’t, you don’t, you never will.

They said "abandon your god above
and love only who I say to love"
But even if Darius did proclaim,
"Follow me or live in shame"
My hand fit not in his glove

So they cast me into a pit.

I could hear the lion's bark
in an abyss so empty and stark
Never did I glimpse at my reflection
But indeed I saw the detection
of my faith dying in the dark.

Clumsily, I fell into a pit.

Fear prowled about like a hungry beast,
and never once had its roaring ceased,
so I knew that its long fangs and swiping tail
would find me without fail
I had one hope at least.

Who had cast me into the pit?

Facing Jerusalem, before I prayed
but now my credence was a chord, frayed
and as the lions came to kill my soul
down their in that empty hole
He sent no angel.

It was he who cast me into the pit.
