Name:
Quintus Verronus
Age: 25
Bounty: N/A
Species: Human
Occupation: Advisor/Trainer
Allegiance: Adezlan
Home Island/Ocean: Maize Island/ East Blue
Appearance:
Quintus is a tall man, standing at a height of six feet and five inches. His overall build is slightly larger than the average human, with broad shoulders and a well-muscled physique, though he is still rather thin and looks slightly malnourished because of it.
Quintus has blue eyes with a touch of green mixed in. In the past, his eyes have been described as being the color of the ocean. His hair is blond. Since leaving the Marines he has let it grow out somewhat and it is about medium-length for a man. He tries to keep it more orderly than when he was in the Marines, since he is no longer pretending to be an idiot. He has also starting shaving off the stubble on his chin instead of leaving it to help keep up the illusion of his supposed idiocy.
History:
Quintus was a leader, even from an early age, or so he thought. By the age of five he had his own little gang of toddlers, both boys and girls, who would run off and disappear into the woods for hours on end. Growing up on a backwater island like Maize just wasn’t very fun, so they had to find excitement where they could. The gang explored every inch of island’s forest. They made forts, climbed up waterfalls, and took on wild animals, the most dangerous of which was just an old bear that couldn’t care less about the children until they were whacking him with sticks. It was a dangerous way to play, but the children loved every minute of it. When they were still very young, their parents tried to stop them, but as they grew older and none of them ever got badly hurt, their parents just left them to it thinking that they would grow out of it.
When
Quintus was eleven, he led his gang to the forest’s main river, which branched off further downstream. He ordered his gang to cross an old, rotted tree, which they had used many times before. The tree, however, had grown weak over the years and when the first two children, both of them boys, stepped onto it, it finally rolled into the water, bringing both children with it. Frantically, the other children tried to get them out, but they could do nothing. Neither of the boys ever reemerged from the water.
Quintus’s gang returned home without him. He stayed there until late into the night, trying to find the other boys. At long last, he went back, devastated at what had happened. The parents of the two boys blamed him for what happened. His gang fell apart and even though a few remained,
Quintus wanted nothing to do with it anymore.
Years passed. The incident was not forgotten, but it had been set aside at last. The parents who had lost children had eventually realized from
Quintus’s reaction that he hated himself for what had happened. They also knew that it had been their decision to let their children play out there like that, so they decided to not hold hard feelings against
Quintus. But he never forgave himself. He went to school and did his homework and got good grades. His parents were happy with that, of course, but they were also concerned with how he was reacting. He no longer played, period. Any free time he had he spent staring at a wall or working at his new job. His parents had taken him to a psychiatrist, but in his case, it didn’t do him any good. They all already knew what was wrong and they couldn’t change it. Nothing would.
The years passed quickly and
Quintus grew older and stronger. When he was twenty, a group of pirates attacked a nearby island.
Quintus had never really thought about pirates before, but from what he had heard, he hated them with a passion. Why were people destroying other’s lives when life was already so short? So he joined the Marines. He had never really fought anything except the animals back in the forest at his home, but he learned quickly and adapted some fighting skills for his own use. He became a sniper and a good one at that. On one particular mission,
Quintus was alone, walking towards his destination, a town which he could see off in the distance. As he walked, he happened to kick a small rock. To his great surprise, the rock transformed into a giant bird. Thinking he was going to die,
Quintus fainted. When he awoke, he was still alive. He searched for the rock he had kicked, even though he was sure it was long gone. He found it though, or one that looked like it, lying only a few feet away. He took the rock and set it in his pocket then continued on his journey. As time passed, he learned that he could cause the rock to transform by rubbing it. He kept this a secret from his superiors and began working on ways to use this bird to his advantage. He named the rock George and talks to it, especially when someone is watching him.
Even more time passed.
Quintus became a Marine who was good in battle, but otherwise did not have a good report with his superiors. He acted stupid so that he would not get promoted. Of course, he still occasionally got promoted, but he only ever made it to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He could have been a much higher rank if he revealed just how strong and smart he truly was, but he did not want authority, not after what happened. Not after he unintentionally ordered two foolish young boys to their deaths.
Quintus was eventually sent to the Hooded Knights. He served under Vice Admiral (at the time) Darnel Warshack. He made a bit of a name for himself, enough that Darnel wanted to promote him. However,
Quintus's personality led him to desert because he could not handle the idea that he would have authority over another person. Eventually he returned to the Hooded Knights while they were in the midst of a battle with the Dusk Pirates and he helped as best he could. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the Hooded Knights, the battle was still a loss and the Marines were forced to retreat. When they returned to Marine headquarters, Darnel tried to speak on
Quintus's behalf and get him a pardon based on how he had come back and tried to help them when they were fighting such a dangerous group of pirates. Unfortunately, Darnel's growing influence was still not enough and he only managed to get
Quintus a lighter sentence. As punishment for his rebellious actions,
Quintus was banished from the Marines and it was made clear that he would never be allowed to join them again.
As far as he was concerned,
Quintus's life was over. He felt like an absolute failure and spent most of his time wandering from place to place, drinking away what little money he had left. Then he met Adezlan. Adezlan was a sixteen year old boy who came to
Quintus in a bar with a proposition. He had heard of how
Quintus had been dishonorably discharged from the Navy, but he did not think of it as a hindrance. In fact he was excited by how
Quintus would have so much time on his hands and he asked
Quintus to train him to be a Marine. He told
Quintus that he wanted to become strong and eventually rise to the rank of Fleet Admiral and he wanted
Quintus to train and teach him how to do it the right way. At first
Quintus blew him off telling him to go and find someone who was actually worth his time, but the boy was persistent. Finally
Quintus exploded on him, telling him that he was an idiot for thinking he could actually become the Fleet Admiral. Only one person at a time could hold that position and it would never be handed out to an overconfident brat who didn't understand his place. After he was finished shouting,
Quintus was taken aback when the boy did not seem angry and even admitted that
Quintus was probably right. But he pointed out that someone had to be Fleet Admiral. Even if it was only one person in the world, why couldn't it be him if he worked hard enough and had someone to help him along the way?
Out of frustration at himself and the boy's words,
Quintus left the boy behind. He didn't think he would ever see that boy again and had no intention whatsoever of helping him become a Marine. However, things didn't quite work the way he planned.
Quintus was walking through the streets when he heard a scream. He wandered in the direction of the scream to see what was going on. He jumped into a tree to get a good view of the situation without being too close. From there, to his shock, he saw Adezlan standing in front of several small children and a young woman while a group of men stood in front of them, blocking any path of escape. The men wanted Adezlan to move, but he refused. Then one of the men raised a gun and shot Adezlan in the shoulder. For a moment, it looked like he was going to fall, but he managed to regain his balance and continued to block their advance. Another of the men, this one the leader, leapt up and used a sword to slice through a stone balcony that was directly over Adezlan and the ones he was protecting. The balcony fell down towards them, but Adezlan managed to catch it, surprising everyone watching with his incredible strength. Unfortunately, between Adezlan's wound and the weight of the stone, he was unable to move to throw it away. The leader was stepping forward to finish off Adezlan when
Quintus stepped in. Or rather,
Quintus's pet George transformed into his roc form and knocked
Quintus out of the tree where he was sitting, watching the encounter. George had been listening while in his rock form and he wanted
Quintus to help out. So, resigned to his fate,
Quintus walked towards Adezlan calmly. Several of the men tried to block him, but
Quintus tore through them easily with a single Eagle Rush. He approached Adezlan and used an Ostrich Spear to kick the balcony off of him. He then proceeded to punch Adezlan in the face and scolded him for foolishly putting himself into a position where he could die. If that happened, who would save the people he was supposed to be protecting? Adezlan, shocked into momentary silence by the punch, finally replied by asking if
Quintus was trying to teach him.
Quintus shrugged and told him to believe whatever he wanted, but that it was more important for him to deal with the immediate threat. The leader sprang towards
Quintus's back in an attempt to catch him off guard, but
Quintus ignored him, instead opting to take a swig from the bottle he was holding. Before the leader's sword could cut
Quintus, Adezlan leaped into his path and kicked the sword away. Then Adezlan punched the leader in the gut with all of his strength. The punch blew the leader back fifty feet and left a massive impact mark on the brick wall that the leader slammed into.
Several minutes later when Adezlan had finished cleaning up the rest of the attackers,
Quintus announced that he was leaving. Once more Adezlan went after him and asked him to train him to be the Fleet Admiral.
Quintus started to say no, but then he stopped and seriously considered it. He admitted out loud that the boy had some potential, but was still pretty much an idiot. He commented that the boy would probably be dead in about a week without help. Adezlan got irritated and told
Quintus that he was drunk and talking nonsense, but
Quintus only laughed and told Adezlan that he,
Quintus, was going sober. Finally,
Quintus agreed to train him. He told the boy that he would help him become the Fleet Admiral. In exchange,
Quintus wanted the boy to give him no authoritative position except as a teacher and he wanted his record to be changed so that he would be remembered not as a disgraced Marine, but as the man who trained the Fleet Admiral.
Two years have passed since that day. Adezlan has become more powerful and grown taller. He isn't a whole lot wiser or more knowledgeable on how to lead troops because
Quintus doesn't believe that he is the right person to teach Adezlan that bit.
Quintus hasn't changed much, except he is a little more skilled than before since he has had the time to hone his abilities. He also has grown far more serious and rarely acts like the goofy Marine he once was.
Personality:
Quintus has changed. Where once he played the fool to avoid getting a promotion, he now treats life with the upmost seriousness. In other words he has allowed his true personality to surface. He never really was an idiot, just afraid of becoming a leader. That part has never changed.
Quintus is still afraid of gaining authority, but he has found a way to work around it. Instead of being a boss, he is simply an advisor and teacher of a young man who he believes has a chance of becoming the Marine's Fleet Admiral one day. Since his quirkiness has practically disappeared,
Quintus has started to go back to his old interests that he had before he joined the Marines. He enjoys cloud watching and paints a little. Both help him stay calm when he is feeling depressed.
Ship: N/A
Ship Flag: Generic Marine Flag
Devil Fruit: N/A
Special Abilities:
Perfect Shot: As a sniper,
Quintus has put a lot of time and effort into making sure he doesn’t miss his target. He is one of the best shots in the entire world.
Strength:
Quintus’s physical strength isn’t legendary like the Yonkou or the Admirals, but he is still a very fit, very strong individual who can hold his own in a hand to hand battle.
Learned Techniques:
1. Shigan: The Shigan is a close-quarter combat technique, in which the user pushes their finger into a certain target at a very high speed, leaving a wound similar to a bullet wound.
2. Heron Strike:
Quintus puts his fingers on one hand together into a single point and jabs at his opponent with all of them at once, piercing his opponent’s skin with them. This is an expansion upon Shigan. By using all of his fingers at one point he can make the hole he creates even larger.
3. Hawk Nails: This is an expansion upon the concept of Shigan. Instead of stabbing an opponent with his finger(s),
Quintus forms his hand(s) into a claw shape and slashes his opponent with his fingers.
4. Eagle Rush:
Quintus blitzes a number of opponents and as he passes them, he spins, raking them with his fingers. This follows the same idea as Hawk Nails.
5. Ostrich Spear: A devastating split second kick that can shatter bone.
6. Falcon Bomb:
Quintus drops from the sky to try and land a powerful kick.
7. Lighter Then Air: This is a dodging technique in which
Quintus almost seems to glide around his opponent to avoid attacks. However, it is not perfect by any means.
8. Flaming Emperor Bomb:
Quintus first fires a Flammable Gas bullet. This bullet is slightly slower than ordinary bullets. Then he shoots a bomb bullet into the back of the Flammable Gas bullet causing them both to explode. Due to its forward momentum, the Flammable Gas bullet continues going forward, but because the bomb bullet made it explode, the gas inside ignites. This causes the whole thing to turn into a massive, flaming ball of fire that slowly increases in size for about ten seconds before the gas is completely burned up. At full size, just before the gas burns up, the ball of flame is approximately fifty feet in both height and width. From the side, the entire thing looks like a comet, because of the flames trailing behind it.
Quintus can only perform this attack once per battle because he only carries one Flammable Gas bullet around with him at a time.

Quintus wears when handling his bullets, a few of which are dangerous to touch.
