Appearance: As a merman his upper body more closely resembles humans. The skin on his body is normally a uniform gray to beige, with large, light brown patches. Has an athletic build, but not muscular. He wears a sleeveless black jacket made of animal hide, and white shirt underneath. If his shirt was off it would reveal an 8pac. His lower body is made up of 8 tentacles each possessing dual rows of suction cups on the inner side. When desired, fighting, or needs to use poison his skin turns light neon yellow, bordering clear but closely blended with bright iridescent blue rings. His tentacles have grown larger do to increase muscle mass.
History: His parents were captured as slaves when Ruben was a baby. He was taken in by his uncle, who was Jellyfishman and a general in the Neptune army. He was famous throughout the kingdom for his strength and mastery of fishman karate. Although Ruben was young his uncle inducted him to army as spy and saboteur. He didn’t receive the loving family relationship most children get instead he was raised to mistrust and deceive. He was always being put in dangerous situations and when he wasn’t working for the army his uncle would have his fighting sea monsters, thrown into ocean currents. Ruben found he was getting strong for no reason and detest working for the army and protecting the Royal Family. He decided that he wouldn’t stand for it and that everyone deserved to live equally. He used his abilities as spy to steal from the rich, pirates, and thugs over the years. His uncle took noticed to what was going on but refused to acknowledge it. One day after the raid of a pirates ship, his uncle confronted him. He told Ruben that what he was doing is wrong and that he was going to arrest Ruben (although it was a bluff) the two fought and the uncle won. This fight proved how far Ruben had to go he was “accidently” forced into a very strong current that would take him all the way to west blue.
York Town was the first island he came to. It was here that he met captain Roku and blizzard pirates and battled briefly with them. After with his encounter with the humans and blizzard pirates alike he learned that he was ill equiped to battle on land so he fled in hopes that he would improve his skills.
First he wanted to pratice drawing on the water away from bodies of water so he went to a tropical island the humidty made it easy to learn basics. While on the island he met a fierce naturist and warrior Ragnok at first never having met a fishman before thought he was a new undiscovered species of the island and studied him from a far. But after noticing Ruben inteligence was unnormal to that of any animal he approached Ruben. They had both from completely different backgrounds but they grew close over the year. Ragnork taught Ruben everything he new about nature and being a warrior. He made sure that nothing they did to train impeded on the enviroment. He required that any training done with animals was of their own free will. When he was done he was able to use the water both in the air but plants as well. Though Ragnork was from the surface his strength impressed Ruben greatly his speed was somthing that Ruben could not deal with at first and strength was like of fishmen. During a fight with him Ruben was hit so hard that it had broke his shell. "You can't get stronger by acting like somthing your aren't. That she shell gave you defense but your no turtle. You carry all these weapons but call yourself a martial artist. What are you going to commit to your karate or those weapons. Either way you an Octopus and need to fight like it," Ragnork. It was this momment when Ruben became to his training in fishman karate and learned to use to compensate for his movement. He also decided there was enough growing he could do here that would allow him to stay for the full year. Orignally Ruben was satisfied practicing stealing things from the animals on the island and returning them without getting noticed. But then he learned that this island had a secret.
Ruben left the island feeling that he was ready to contiue his journy he made his way to the grandline.
After Drum Island Ruben was found by a group of Ryuga Palaces soldiers who had tricked him into returning to fishman island. After returning he was arrested and in prisoned. It was only after being arrested that he learned his uncle had been killed and so had the minister of the left. Ruben was charged with being the culprit for both incidents. After sometime he had managed to convince the various soilders that came to guard him that he had gone crazy. Using their lowered guard he eventually managed to break free from his sail. But he did not immediately leave fishmen island instead Ruben found his uncles old master and trained under him in secret. During this time he also investigated the charages against him. He was able to discover who set him up. But it wasn't enough the person wasn't on fishmen island anymore so in order to bring him in Ruben would have to leave to continue his search.
After leaving fishmen island he searched for the grandline for not only the man responsible for his imprisonment but the Blizzard pirates. He had been following their exploits through newspapers he had stolen from pirates on fishmen island. Ruben was able to figure out that they would be headed to NW so Ruben went in order to rejoin his old crew.
Personality: Ruben is a laid back individual who prefers to take things as they come and thinks anything is possible. Despite his easy going disposition at time he can display a monstrous killer intent. He is no longer reckless, he has learned that sometimes sometimes you have to hold back and know your limits. He still loves to fight however, and has grown more proctective over children. Ruben will give worthy opponents a single dose of cure to his poison (if they don’t need to die) in hopes that he might fight them again He is very rude and refuses to be bossed around. But he will follow someone who finds interesting or will help him further his ambition.
Ruben takes is very passionate about stealing he finds no greater thrill then the challenge. He personally likes luxurious items but because he is always traveling he doesn’t have a place to keep stuff so he’ll tends to give a lot to the poor, despite the great lengths he goes to steal. He is comical cheap and will often suggest someone buy him something.
Despite being a merman he doesn’t have any ill feelings against humans as species he considers everyone’s actions are a reflection as an individual. The only exception to this in his mind, are the World Nobles. He has mixed since of fear and hate towards them and if given the chance will kill one, despite an admiral’s pursuit.

Special Abilities: Expert escape artist and thief. His strength his supersedes that of most fishmen he now of capable of matching giants in feats of strength. He is great at multi tasking and can often be using his tentacles to handle many tasks. An adequate marksman and highly proficient with axe play. Master level fishman karate. Able to intercept someone moving gear 2 speeds even on land. Tolerance to pain
Learned Techniques (Keep it 1-25):
- Poisonous Visions: The user will wave their arms/tentacles around, up, down, back, and forward. The blue rings on the users body will appear to float. The person will get nauseous causing there combat to be less affective. This is caused by the users poison. This has now been trained to point where the user can choose to send his poison through the air(water vapor) to poison target (less deadly than contact.)
- Octopus merman combat- Nettō no shutsu (out of boiling water) using his ability to jet propel himself through water. He will use this as means to escape at great speeds. Or a fast lance of water easily capable of going through stone.
- Uchimizu (撃水, Uchimizu?, literally meaning "Water Shot"): The basic version of Yabusame, in which a drop water is thrown like a bullet
- Poison shot- poison thrown like bullet
- Sea Surface Splitter: This attack can be used in several ways. The strength of the attack depends on the number of arm used. Using a karate chop motion, the user can split the very ocean itself in order to send a shock wave to attack enemies with 1-8 arm/tentacles.
In the water he can do this attack with upwards of 6 tentacles and2 arms. At his current level he can cause a wave that would cover the Going Merry but not cause serious damage. On land he can do it with 4 tentacles in 1 direction causing a fissure a foot deep to extend 12ft knocking an opponent off their feet and they would feel the pain one would receive from a strong kick.
On land it can also done 1-8 tentacles in different direction 1ft area of affect range.
- Merman Combat- Ogi Surface Swim: Water is drawn in around the body to mimic a body of water to alow the user to move as if he were underwater. So merman can swim on land. This tenique can only be done if there is enough moisture in the air and take great focus. If interrupted/distracted the technique fails.
- Merman combat- Ogi Genzai no doriru (Fishman karate ultimate technique- Current drill) Using the users flexible legs/body they will spin fast creating a funnel. The user will then then force the water towards their oponent resembling a drill. A spinning stream of water comes at the target. (now rivals Gyojin Karate Ogi: Buraikan)(Does damage similar to that of a large drill)
- Mizu Guard: Using the water in a persons body and air Ruben can slow down and block attacks. This also can be done to save somthing thats falling.
- Kusanpo (cloud walk) using the moisture he the person can actually jump off the air itself, allowing them to stay in the air for much longer than usual. Allowing them cross great distances in the sky as long as there is enough moisture in the air. If done underwater the already fast merman speed will be even more impressive, clearing great distances very swiftly.
- Karakusagawara Seiken ("Arabesque Tile True Punch"): User punches at a fair distance from the intended target(s), so instead of the fist connecting, it uses the water vapor in the air to release a shock wave that sends them flying. the shock waves aren't concentrated upon being released; but in exchange, it has a much wider area of effect. This move has a delayed effect, as the shock wave takes a while to affect the opponent(s)
- Octopus tile true punch: This can be done with 1-1/2 of all his limbs at a time. This technique is shockwave of water cone like area of affect. Several wings of water gather as they are forced towards opponent by the 3rd ring it already larger and wider than most humans. As things rings go forward they get larger making even harder to dodge. The shock wave passes through body hitting the liquid inside and because of this it will damage despite normal bluntness immunity or over all defenses such as hard skin and armor. This attack make even strong opponents who can't find a way to defend fly back and cough up blood.
- Tako Merman combat: Waving his arms in a hypnotic fashion. The plants around him a 15ft area will follow his movement. Ruben will use the plants to ensnare oppponents (the water in plant). This technique will only work with flexible plants, not tree trunks.
- Ultramarine user grabs the water with their hands, similar to Mizugokoro, and then hurls it forward in a mighty, extremely large torrent that blasts away his opponents with great force.
- Kairyu Ipponzeoi (海流一本背負い Kairyū Ipponzeoi?, literally meaning "Sea Current Lifter") He heaves the current upward, where it erupts from the ocean surface as a towering stream of water.
- Genzai no shēpā (current shaper) shaping the water around him forming or redirecting a current around him he is able to redirect attacks and ships no larger than a marine battle ship (not war ship
- Yarinami (spear) heaves a spear-shaped burst of water with enough force to punch a hole in solid structures
- Kihatsu umi- Volatile Waters. Creating whirlpool it will grow larger over time and upon maturity five post will erupt in large geyser visible for miles
- Yabusame first wets his arm, then he punches the air in a chosen direction, using his massive strength to throw many drops of water, which are converted into deadly arrows through mere kinetic force
Octopus Play (This is a style not technique): The user switches items between his hands and tentacles to confuse his opponents. Making it harder for them to block and counter.
Weapons/Items: A small hidden knife. A water proof sack with white rope inside and three pistols
Goals: To end the suffering by breaking down the class system (poor middle rich) if everyone is poor that satisfies him because everyone is equal. Find person who framed him
