| Subject: Skip D. Rosco (Finished!) Wed Feb 16, 2011 8:49 pm | |
| Name: Skip D. Rosco Age: 25 Bounty: 0 Species: Human Occupation: Captain/navigator Allegiance: Pirate Home Village/Ocean: Furi Village/East Blue Appearance: - Spoiler:
Rosco's most notable feature is his mismatched eyes, one being dark brown and the other being light blue. His brown hair is kept loosely tied and usually wrapped in a red cloth, or he simply lets is hang loose. Standing around 6 ft. even he has a solid build with years of honed muscle. Not being much for fashion Rosco prefers a light cloth shirt and trousers that breath well in the sea air. History: Long History Warning. - Spoiler:
To know the man named Skip D. Rosco you must understand where he came from, the independent island of Furi. The closest thing you could think of to a free nation, Furi island was divided into 3 equal, and peaceful provinces. The 1st belonged the pirate's, they docked in the eastern ports and the population was never consistent; different crews constantly came in, though most where familiar faces since Furi village is fairly tricky to get to if your not experienced with this part of East Blue. Though different crews gather with many different ambitions, the Island of Furi is considered neutral territory. The second nation of Furi island is the people of the hammer, the shipwrights and carpenters that make up all of the western ports. Known all throughout the island and across the seas the quality of the Furi Island shipwrights is second to few.Valued both on the island and across the seas the shipwrights of Furi island only build the best ships and only take orders of from off the island only after local needs are meet; this makes them an invaluable asset to the other two territories, especially the last. The fisherman (Occupation not species) of Furi island have been legendary among the island since it's origins; taking up the northern and the southern bay and southern ports which snake there way far island. For generations the fisherman honed their techniques and established their position as the greatest farmers of the sea, the most dedicated of which dive into the waters around Furi to pull the best sea can offer. The 3 Nations are ever dependant of each other; without the shipwrights neither the pirates nor the fishers could stay sea worthy for long; without the fisherman the island as a whole could run the risk of starving; without pirates marking the island as neutral ground and warding off attackers the island would simply fall to ruin. The islands harmony comes to a climax at it's center at the tip of the Furi island bay, this is where the Furi Marketplace is situated. Ran equally by all inhabitants of the island the marketplace is the life blood of the small nation. Without it the shipwrights, fisherman, and pirates would have no place to do business, and the island as a whole would be cut off from the rest of the seas. The harmony and neutrality of Furi island is something truly rare in these seas. Skip D Rosco was born below deck a Furi Island pirate ship, a fine vessel captained by his father Skip D. Rango. If you asked most people on Furi Island they would tell you Rango was a great pirate from the their home Island, but he was never as great as he could have been. Weighed down by the choices of pursuing rebellion or finding adventure Rango often times fell to the bottle for much of his decision making. As a result his ship the New Earth would stay docked for many weeks at a time, and when it did make voyage Rango was forced to persue the route of a quick Beri to support the rum bill. That was until Rango became smitten, and smitten hard. It wasn't with some exotic beauty or foreign temptress, but instead it was with his ship's Navigator. A skinny woman with dark brown hair and chiseled featured that had been weathered by the ocean. Rango's long time infatuation with the woman grew into a pirate's kind of love, it was her that made Rango desire adventure at seas once again; that was until Rosco came along. For 4 years after Rosco was born Rango docked the New Earth, for 4 years he dedicated himself to being the best father he could and making his son a strong boy. Living in their small seaside home underneath a busy pirate's tavern they family couldn't be happier; but Rango still yearned for adventure at sea. It was on Rosco's 4th birthday that his father first shipped out in search of enough treasure and plunder to sustain is family for the foreseeable future; and maybe finally relive the half glory from his youth. One of Rosco's earliest memories is standing on the eastern docks watching his father ship out, crying and carrying on because papa wouldn't take him to sea; from that day forward Rosco knew he would be a pirate. Rosco's mother stayed home, she had put being a pirate behind when her son came along; but she let her husband live his dream, it was his free spirit that made her fall in love with him in the first place. None the less being a single mother in a pirate town is no easy task, even after working 3 jobs Rosco was also expected to start working. "Work is good for you" his mother would always say; and as he got older Rosco realised how right she was. Working 6 days a week Rosco had to grow up quick, but the 3 jobs he acquired in his youth would lay the foundation for his future as a pirate. His first job was working at the Pub above his families home, busing tables and serving drunk pirates. The bar was by no means a place for children, but with the protection of being his father's son no one would think of touching Rosco on Furi Island. Not that they would want to, the boy charmed everyone he met, his charm was polished as a desire for better tips. His days among the rum soaked pirates telling tales of there exploits at sea are what first gave Rosco the desire for a free life on the water, always knowing he wanted to be a pirate his days in the pub simply fueled his dreams. His second job came soon after he started his first, after establishing himself as a hard worker the owner of the pub started allowing the young man to deliver liquor and supplies around the island, also being the owner a large share of the marketplace the owner had no lack of deliveries. Getting paid on the amount of product moved Rosco was inclined to build muscle on his thin frame, because muscle was money. The job wasn't monitored and the shop owner didn't really care how much product he moved as long as he kept up with his pub duties. The job of delivering alcohol and goods among the island allowed the cooped up young lad to explore the island the way he wanted to; taking the long way around the island or cutting through thick woods because he loved the freedom to do so. The freedom he had with this job allowed his head to dream a goal, a goal that would fuel his future pirate crew and shape his life, to one day form an island nation that would be considered the most free island in the whole world; a place dreams can bloom and evil could never take hold. His 2nd job is how he would eventually find his 3rd, delivering products is also how Rosco would meet his best friend and future first mate, his oldest friend Goga the fish-man. The two met on a sunny day while Rosco was bringing a package to Roga; this was a very rare thing since Roga had the nickname of the fishing hermit, because he only contacted the others on the island when absolutely necessary and he never did business with the pub. In fact he had been living at sea since a little before Rosco started delivering for the pub, around 3 years earlier. As Rosco approached the old fisherman's shack he saw a strange young man with green scaly skin that glimmered slightly in the sun; he was crouched down on his knees over 2 wooden buckets. He was busy cleaning fish, putting the waste in one bucket and the good meat in another. Rosco sat down the package he was delivering and kneel ed down next to the fish-boy. "Hey! Watcha doin?" The fish-boy was noticeably shocked when Rosco talked, Goga was so concentrated on his work he hadn't noticed the delivery-boy walking up. "Uhh... I'm cleaning these fish for my dad... You want me to show you how to do it?" He replied hesitantly to Rosco as he grabbed a fresh fish. Having never met another kid and few humans in general Goga was understandably cautious, but he was also a lonely lad. "Can you really show me how?" Rosco asked, to which Goga nodded happily "well ok then" he said with a smile as he picked up a fish and the other knife sitting by Goga. Roga stood silently at the opening of their beach shanty, a wide smile was on his face as he watched the 2 lads joke around while fiddling with the fish, his plan had worked nicely. The old fisherman had little need for the loaf of rum-bread he ordered from the tavern, but knowing Rosco did the deliveries Roga wanted to give his son a chance to make a friend. "So what are you anyways?" Rosco asked bluntly. "Umm, my dad says I'm a fishman." Goga replied cautiously, almost afraid he would loose the friend he just made. "Cool!" Rosco replied excited, "My dad has told me stories about fish-man. You must be real strong!" This made Goga chuckle loudly "I'm gonna be a pirate one day just like my dad" "A good pirate or a bad pirate?" "A free pirate!!!" From that day forward the 2 boys where best friends, from that day forward Rosco also had a new job. Roga took a liking to the boy, and since he wanted his own son to have company he decided to allow the Rosco to accompany them fishing. Rosco wasn't a great fisherman, he didn't have the knack for it that Goga was born with; but Roga noticed the boy was a natural navigator, picking up on techniques that some sailors never learn. Rosco took to navigation so well that when he told his mother about it, the former pirate navigator, she was so excited she allowed him to put off his 2 jobs at the bar in order to learn the trade better. "I know Roga! He's a great Navigator, learn all you can!" she would say she set him out each day. Whether she knew the old fisherman or not didn't matter to Rosco, he just loved being out on the sea helping Goga and Roga, he respected the old man to no end because of the freedom he possessed. Rosco and Goga spent 6 days a week on the fishing boat, alot of times not docking for days on end; they had 1 day off a week to have fun, most days they would spend hours on end running through the forests or play fighting; on one of these days off Rosco spent hours on end carving a club from a fallen tree branch, Goga joined him and fashioned himself a more refined spear and worked up a rope to attached to it. Yes it was those days off that where the most influential to Rosco's development growing. Rosco did not spend this day off in the woods however, because Skip D. Rango was finally home. The New Earth pulled into the eastern docks while people poured from the tavern to great the long awaited pirates. The 4 year old who had watched his father shipping out with envious eyes was now a fine young man of 16. Standing a half head over his father now, Rosco took heavily from his mother's side of the family; her sharp features made for quite a handsome son. His mother was standing next to Rosco, one arm around him while the other wiped away tears, having been over 10 years since seeing her husband Rosco's mother was understandably emotional. The crew of the New Earth slowly got everything situated on board the ship while their families hooted and hollered from the docks, then one by one the crew leapt from the ship, each with a smile upon their face. The last man off deck was Skip D. Rango, now with a thick beard and layers of muscles he hadn't carried since his 20's, he was a man who had sailed the Grand line. Rosco's mother up to him before he even got on land, crying desperately she punched Rango solidly in the face, he didn't try blocking; then she leapt into his arms and kissed him firmly "I thought you died because I wasn't with you!" she said as her feet dangled above the ground. "Does that sound like Rango to you?" the grey headed captain said with a smile as he lowered his wife tot he dock and looked up to see Rosco standing down a ways, he was talking to Goga who had just walked up. "My Son!!!" Rango exclaimed as he gave his son a bear hug, ten years worth of hugs in one. "Have you been building a pirate's body!?" "And a pirate's spirit!!" He said with his trademark smile upon his face "I suppose you have some good story for me huh?" "Haha! There's plenty of time for my sea tales." Rango said while walking over to the platform leading up to the New Earth "First how bout you and your buddy help me unload some cargo." he added as he motioned for Rosco and Goga to follow him on board. Not having stepped upon the ship since he was 4 years old Rosco was now boarding it as a budding pirate, he walked on the deck with awe at what he saw. The ship was full of cargo from all over the grandline, spices and herbs from exotic markets, food and stored goods harvested from specialty farms, weapons and armor that Rosco had never seen, and of course treasure and loot littered the deck; it was a pirate's dream. Goga and Rosco spent the next few hours helping the crew unload their goods, taking them to the tavern to be split among the crewman. In exchange for their work Rango allowed them to choose their pick of something from the take, the young men decided on a wooden barrel that seemed to be filled with a variety of things. "Good choice lads" his father said as he reached in his coat pocket. "But I've got something else for you Rosco." From his coat he pulled out a stone pipe with a monkey head carved in the bowl head, Rosco remembered his father smoking it as a child. "This pipe belongs to the captain of the New Earth, it was originally carved by my father while he this ship... Rosco, this pipe, and this ship is now yours" Rosco was dumbfounded, his mouth hung ajar in awe at what Rango just said. "My pirate days are over son, this voyage has been the greatest of my lifetime and the profits from it will last our family well into the years... You can leave a greater legend then I ever could, you're this ship's captain now." It was right there on the deck of the New Earth that Rosco was made a pirate captain. If Rosco had his way him and Goga would have set sail the following day, but both Roga and Rosco's parents wanted them to wait until their 18th birthdays. Begrudgingly they accepted, though it was Rosco that was pushing for them to set sail Goga was the one that truly desired to live on the sea. After being raised on a small fishing boat with only Rosco and a few others to socialize with Goga was yearning for a pirate's life. So the two waited, they waited until Goga was 18 and Rosco was 20; and then it was to the sea. They wished their families farewell and promised to return in due time, but first they needed to become stronger. It's been 5 years since Rosco and his first mate left Furi Island, the two sailed deep into East Blue until they found a small abandoned island. Eating nothing but fish and rice the two have spent 5 years on this island developing themselves into polished pirates. They have used up all their supplies and the time is finally right; it's time to find the right crew that's capable of aiding Rosco and Goga in forming the Free Nation, their dream. After leaving their island getaway the New Earth headed out in search of a crew to fill it, then they would search for the dream island in which to settle down. Personality: A man with his head in the sky and his mind 3 miles ahead of himself, Rosco is the definition of a free spirit. Rarely seeming to actually be in the moment, its obvious his head is working around far greater thoughts. Life is what Rosco wants, to live it as a free man while never losing his smile. Skip D. Rosco can see the ideal future and his soul burns to make it a reality; as long as he can live as a free man beside his brothers he will be happy. If there was one personality flaw to be said about Rosco it was his passion for woman, often times reverting to a mumbling school boy when talking to a gorgeous woman. Ship:New Earth. A somewhat small ship that has seen better days. The vessel has 2 separate sleeping quarter's, 10 beds in total, that are connected by the kitchen/dining room; this is the room that also connects the cabin to the upper deck. Having navigated the grandline before under the Captain Skip D. Rango, this ship yearns to re-live it's glory days. Skip has dreamed about sailing this ship since he was a child; now the New Earth is his. Ship Flag: The flag of the Free Pirates is a simple one, it's a basic jolly roger without any bones in the background. In the mouth of the skill is a large steel hoop and an iron skull key. Devil Fruit:N/A Special Abilities, other than DF powers: Developing his skills since his childhood Rosco has become an amazing Navigator, learning from both the fisherman Roga and his Navigator mother Rosco soon surpassed both his natural talent. Training immensely as a teenager with his weapon Rosco has honed his technique and become very deadly with his wooden club; developing a unique style of speed and precision as well as amazing power. Rosco is avid Boxer, finding no greater pleasure than facing new opponent in a sparing match. Goga and Rosco have boxed each other thousands of times of the years, tying more times than not. Learned Techniques: Wooden Fist style: A flowing and precise style, Rosco has spent years working on the style by studying both sword and staff techniques. The wooden fist uses powerful strikes as well as long swooping motions. 4 fingers of the Wooden Fist: The four techniques or forms that Rosco has developed with his wooden club. The Dancing Tree- As defensive move useful fro keeping multiple opponents at bay. By crouching down and manipulating his footwork while swing the club at full extension Rosco is able to create a full circumference around himself. The speed of the swing is fast and fluid, but the due to the increase in speed the power of the bats blows is understandably reduced. The Reaching Log- One of Rosco's most powerful blows, by using the momentum of his body Rosco delivers an accurate straightforward strike. Using the bat as one would a spear he settles the end of the club in his right hand as he delivers the hit in a very accurate and powerful manner with the head of the bat. A downside to this move is Rosco will tend to loose his grip on the club if his blow misses. The Cutting Root- An attack that can yield very effective results, though it's only useful the one time. Rosco starts by doing a quick spin to build up momentum, then with a quick swing of his arms he the club at the enemies feet, forcing them to take the hit or make a quick dodge; but this is just the distraction. While the club is flying through the air Rosco leaps at his opponent to attack them while they're distracted by the bat, usually delivering a punch to the face or a kick to the stomach. The Spinning Leaf- Rosco's most powerful strike, but also his most difficult by far. After a quick dash in the opponents direction Rosco leaps in the air and positions himself to deliver a drop kick. His hands stay behind his head holding the handle of the club as it lays parallel with his back. As he feet hit the opponent delivering a powerful kick Rosco somersaults forward and brings the club down upon the enemies head or shoulders. Weapons/Items: A wooden club that Rosco carved from a fallen tree. The wood is worn smooth and slightly warped from over use. The club is unusually long and reaches about 4 1/2 ft. A stone pipe carved in the shape of monkey's head, he loves smoking it and looking out upon the see. If the pipe isn't hanging from his mouth then its dangling from a rope around his neck. Made by his grandfather and given to Rosco from his father this is probably his most precious possession. Goals: Skip D. Rosco is a man with only one objective in his lifetime, to build up a crew of people that truly know the meaning of freedom; and with this destined crew Rosco will one day create the pirate utopia that is the Free Empire. A dream nation where rules and limitations are taboo, where freedom is the only currency.
