Species: Human
Occupation: Sharp Shooter
Allegiance: Pirate
Home Village/Ocean: South Blue
Appearance:
Sana is about 4'8 with a slim figure and small build. She has thin brown hair that falls unevenly around her shoulders and green eyes so dark they almost look black. Her skin is lightly tanned, with bumps and small scars speckling it everywhere, as well as a multicolored tattoo in the shape of the Aurora Borealis, with a small black wing at the bottom right on her right forearm. She is constantly wearing the same dark purple hoodie, and a tan miniskirt with a decorative white and tan waist, and black shorts underneath. She also wears multicolored striped socks and green boots that end just above her ankle. Finally Sana has a rusty star shaped locket she keeps attached to a frayed scrap of leather, which is usually worn as a bracelet by looping the leather strap around her wrist several times.
History: Sana's mother abandoned her on the side of the road when she was born, unwilling to take care of a child, and not caring whether her daughter lived or died. After several days of being exposed to the elements Sana was on the brink of death when an old woman, known by the villagers as Baba, came across her and took her in. For weeks Sana's life hang by a thin thread, and more then once she would stop breathing or exhibit other symptoms of death. After a month of tender caring by Baba, however, Sana's life was saved and she slowly began to grow more and more healthy. For twelve years Sana lived an ordinary, healthy life with Baba as her caretaker, and she also learned how to fend for herself as the other, bigger, children bullied her because of her stunted growth (due to how sick she had been).
However, soon Baba became gravely ill, and the village doctor proclaimed that she wouldn't make it. The woman was strong and determined to continue raising Sana, and so for an entire year she lay in bed and fought against the sickness. Baba managed to live through Sana's thirteenth birthday, where they happily celebrated together with a cake Sana had made, but the next morning Sana woke up to the silence of death. The funeral service was small and simple, with a few men from the village helping Sana dig a grave for Baba in the backyard, and the village's minister saying a small prayer for the gentle woman's spirit. For an entire day Sana sat beside Baba's grave, talking to the departed spirit of the only family she had.
For a few months Sana tried to live on her own, buying what she could with the meager savings Baba had left her with and stealing once that ran out. Eventually, when Sana had been caught several times by the more irritable shop keepers an orphanage matron came and took Sana away, telling her she couldn't live on her own like that. For a few more months Sana stayed at the orphanage, distancing herself from almost all the other children. A select few attracted her, like a moth to the dangerous flames, and she quietly interacted with them. When Jayu, one of her few "friends" abandoned the orphanage, Sana followed her.
For nearly four years Sana lived the hard life she had once been forced to, working whenever and however she could to make a living so she could help support herself and the other orphans. As time passed the group grew very close together, and Sana found herself releasing more and more of her emotions that had been locked away for so long, allowing the other orphans to become her new family. She even had cried in front of them on several occasions, something Sana wouldn't have done even before Baba's death. One way the orphans showed their new loyalty was by each getting a tattoo, although the only similarity amongst the tattoos was a small black wing at the bottom right corner.
This happiness could not last forever, though, and soon the marines attacked the band of friends after recognizing one of the orphans. The group had to desperately part ways, but each promised the others to become well known, and when they once again met they would see who had become the greatest.
For weeks Sana wandered around the island, avoiding marines and stealing any food she could get her hands on. Eventually she ended up at Baba's small cottage, which showed large signs of having been abandoned. Knowing she couldn't risk the marines destroying Baba's home if they found her, Sana made her visit short by just visiting Baba's grave and explaining all that had happened to her. Then Sana peeled a splinter from the wooden grave stone marking Baba's grave and placed it in the present Baba had given her on the last birthday of Sana's the two shared together, a beautiful star locket that had already begun to show signs of age through various blemishes.
The next day Sana left before the sun had even come up, making her way to the village's docks. There she stole a new set of clothing, a pistol, a short staff, and slipped onto a marine ship. She hid among the marine's cargo for most of the voyage, though just before they reached the next island she stole one of the life boats, not wanting to get caught if the marine's unloaded the cargo, as well as "borrowing" any of the crew's money that was wasn't locked up while they slept. When Sana arrived at the island she made her way directly to the first tavern she found and ordered enough food to feed someone twice her size.
Personality: After losing so many people she has considered family Sana is reluctant to grow close to, or acknowledge, anybody if it is not absolutely necessary. Even then she usually communicates through muttered words and gestures. She has locked up most of her emotions, so can appear cold and empty to people at first glance, especially since she often gets lost in her own thoughts and doesn't react to people much. All of these emotions struggle to be free, like prisoners resisting their chains, and so sometimes Sana will show exactly how alive she is. This mostly happens stressful situations, where she becomes very heated and usually in debates and such gets her thoughts all muddled up, resulting in her retracting back into herself out of embarassment. She also can be considered crazy, since sometimes she will have conversations with the locket containing the piece of Baba's grave marker.
