Sanbu Ken

Weapon Name: Three-Part Sword [Sanbu Ken: 三部剣]

Description: The Sanbu Ken's sheath is made of blackened wood, with lacquer covering the whole thing. There is a tan and black, broad string-like wrapping woven around the handle of the katana, and the katana's guard looks like a golden series of 'Ouroboros' snakes, rotating slightly as the rings get closer to the handle. The Sanbu Ken's blade is a silver color with a slightly bluish tint, and it is the standard size for a katana. The wakizashi looks exactly the same as the katana, sans the guard, and it is as long as the blade of the katana. The tantō is made precisely the same as the wakizashi, and it is as long as the wakizashi's blade.

Weapon Special Abilities:

Deception: The tantō and wakizashi both have slightly hollow blades, allowing the tantō to slide into it's sheath, the wakizashi to slide into the tantō, and the katana to slide into the wakizashi. When they are all sheathed, it appears to be a simple katana. This can allow the wielder of the Sanbu Ken to surprise enemies by drawing the wakizashi out of the tantō, and then the tantō out of it's sheath.

High Grade Sword: The Sanbu Ken is a Ryō Wazamono Grade Sword, of higher grade than most named swords. However, it can still be bested by a Ō Wazamono Grade Sword or higher. The tantō, wakizashi, and the katana are all of equal grade.

History: The Sanbu Ken was crafted by a maker of high quality, yet extremely odd swords. The crafter was attempting to create a sword that would allow it's wielder to deceive enemies into thinking they could be easily disarmed. The Sanbu Ken was sold by the blacksmith to a kendo student in a nearby town, hoping that the child could get a lot of use out of the weapon. The student became proficient in wielding the Sanbu Ken, and actually became the best kendo student in his dojo. The student began traveling the world at the age of twenty one, entering many swordsmanship competitions and winning almost every one he entered. After a time, his skill was noted even by the Tenryuubito, and one of them decided to hire the student - now a master - as a guard. For years, the man served the Tenryuubito... until the incident happened. The Lantern pirates had decided to steal some of the Tenryuubito's belongings, and for the most part, they had succeeded. The only guard standing in their way was the master, and the master engaged Chai in battle. Chai, using his special kind of martial arts, bested the wielder of the Sanbu Ken. The man, losing his first battle in many years, relinquished the Sanbu Ken to Chai, and fled from Mariejois. The wielder somehow escaped vengeance from the Tenryuubito, and lived out his days teaching others how to be swordsmen.

Nowadays, the Sanbu Ken is held in the Lantern's Captain's Quarters. Chai believes that one day he will be able to wield it, but for the moment it is taken care of by Davis, and held under Chai's bed.
