"The Gambler" Empty
PostSubject: "The Gambler"   "The Gambler" Icon_minitimeTue Jan 04, 2011 6:50 pm

Name: “Gambler“, True name: Celio D. Rodriguez, considered top secret, just like his existence, for the most part. he introduces himself as "A humble traveller who happened to overhear the conversation... call me "Gambler", if you must." Or something alike.

Age: Most likely in his late twenties to early thirties, judging from his appearance

Bounty: None, at least not on posters, but he's on the black list of world government and marine likewise, and sometimes chosen elite assassins or bounty hunters (who are only informed of the payment they get for killing him, not why, or who he even is.) get the job offering to kill him, usually for a large amount of money.

Species: Human (Most likely, but you never know... No, kidding. He's human. Modified, but still human.)

Occupation: doctor and scientist

Allegiance: used to work for the world government, now on his own side

Home Village/Ocean: considered to come from the “New World“. All other data on the matter disappeared mysteriously.

Appearance:
“The Gambler“ is a man with dark tanned skin, standing at about 5'10''.
He's slim, almost delicate and feminine in appearance, his long, black hair falling to his shoulders and his pretty face only strenghten his feminine looks. Even his slight scrubiness and obvious dislike of caring for his looks at least a bit don't really manage to make him look less like a whimpy pretty boy.
You wouldn't think he would actually get himself into situations where violence is involved, if only it wasn't for the long, thin slashing scar over his left eye, which is, possibly because of the incident that got him the scar, left blind, or at least has lost it's colour, and doesn't move anymore.
It can look extremely creepy when he looks to the side out of the corner of his healthy, right eye (red in colour, for some... reason that will be explained) while his left stays exactly the way it is, giving of the impression that he's cross eyed (which he's not, by any means).
Normally, he wears a long coat with a simple shirt and a vest under it, and long, mostly brown pants.
Would he take any of those garments off, one would most likely see a lot more scars, most of them more terrifying in looks than the one stretching over his face. Especially the one on his back, which is huge and gives off the impression that it has only just healed and could open up again any time.

History:
On an unknown island, a boy was born. He was born the third child, having two older twin brothers, and would soon have a younger sister as well.
His mothers name was Elvira D. Rodriguez, and he got the name Celio D. Rodriguez.
Celio was a very quiet child, and with a curiousity and intelligence that was astounding.
Sometimes, he'd do things that the others wouldn't understand, and sometimes, those things were downright cruel.
When he was five, he took a spoon and gouged his older brothers eye out with it, and that wasn't the worst he did.
Despite, or maybe because of that cruelty, he grew up to be a genius the likes of which the world rarely saw, and he knew it.
He finished school when he was only 13, and with top grades, but somehow, he didn't seem to care at all. He didn't seem to care for a lot, anyway.
The last thing heard of him officially was him becoming a doctor at the age of 15, something he only commented with an “Oh.“, before going back to his experiments.
Of course, the world government soon got an interest in him, and offered him to work for them as a scientist, mostly on biologic weapons.
He just signed the contract quietly, without showing any enthusiasm, and left the room.
After that, he'd officially been declared dead.
Officially. Inofficially, he was working day and night, even outside of his working hours, in the labs of the government. Whenever he wasn't working on new weapons, equipment, cures or poisons, he was experimenting there privatley, without anyone knowing what exactly he was doing.
Over time, people started disappearing, and two individuals turned up out of nowhere, persons who Celio only identified as “Fox and Wolf“. They seemed to be assistants of some sort to him, never leaving his side. Violent, aggressive individuals with high intelligence, snd somehow still inhuman.
The government grew curious as to what exactly it was that young Celio did all the time.

At this point, there's a hole in the data of the government. If one was to look for it, he wouldn't be able to find it, as if it was never written at all.
The next entry about Celio D. Rodriguez was about one year later, confirming his dead a second time, inofficially. With this, his existance was wiped out.
There are rumors about what had been found in the laboratory.
Some involve human expiriments, mixing human genes with those of animals, creating new humans alltogether, or simply cutting them up to see if a human head, if veins, lungs and heart were still connected, could survive even if it was severed from the rest of the body.
Others state that Mr. Rodriguez was working on a new super weapon to wipe out the government alltogether, that he was, in fact, an anarchist, or a spy for the revolutionaries, or both.
The alternatives are endless, and most of them involve a lot of blood.
None of those rumors could be confirmed, and Celio D. Rodriguez, the genius, became a bit of a legend in governmental circles, his laboratory supposedly haunted and place of many horror stories told to scare the newbies.

The truth about him is only known to the highest circles, and they won't tell anyone even the smallest details:
Fox and Wolf had been killed when they tried to resist and protect their master. Their bodies were brought to a laboratory to examine what exactly they were later, just after it could be made sure that Rodriguez was dead.
The execution happened. Officially. Inofficially, when the guards came to take him away, Celio wasn't in his cell anymore. No windows, only one door, no materials to break out. Nobody knows how he did it.
There were no signs of him breaking out, neither of him breaking into the laboratory, yet the bodies of Fox and Wolf were gone as well when the doctors checked.

The government didn't know what to do about the riddle that was Celios existence, so they declared him dead.
And for a few years, he stayed dead.

Untill he was sighted again. On purpose, as the higher ups think.
Maybe being dead was just to boring for him.
He had changed, oh yes. His hair had gotten longer, and his eyes had changed colour, with one blind, the left one.
That wasn't the only thing that changed, however. That became horribly clear to everyone around when he demonstrated it by wiping out fifty innocent men, only leaving their corpses on the ship. And a message, just to make clear that it had been him. Just to say “I'm back, and I'm better that ever.“
A message in form of a recording den den mushi that could show the whole incident in high quality.
Fox and Wolf weren't with the Gambler, but another one.
A being even stranger than the two of them, its eyes covered by long streaks of gray hair, and his mouth, filled with sharp teeth, twisted into a malicious, but empty grin.
It didn't have fingers, but claws with which it slashed through the men as “Gambler“ told it to.
It certainly wasn't a fishman, but it didn't look human, or even cyborg-like at all either.
It was an abomination.

With that, the hunt for “The Gambler“ began.

Personality:
“The Gambler“ is always just himself, not more and not less.
He can be considered a sociopath: He knows he's a genius, he knows you're not. He'll let you know about him knowing that.
He may seem arrogant because of that, but actually, he's rarely stating the facts like he always does, without thinking about the feelings of others or risks for hismelf.
In fact, he seems to have a thing for taking risks (which partly got him his nickname), enjoying the adrenaline and the feeling of having outsmarted others once again. Give him ten ways to solve a situation: he'll take the riskiest one. And get away with it.
Oh, how he loves to see people crawl in the dirt before him. Not because they want to, then he doesn't care, but because he made them. He loves having control, power over others and lets them fall once he looses interest in them.
Human life, compassion, love, friendship, ideals, laws.... They mean nothing to him. It's like he didn't even care to take a look at them. Too unimportant. Though he does manipulate now and then.
All in all, one could say he passed the moral horizon twice and still isn't slowing down.
But he's not, by any means, a complete monster. Okay, so maybe he is a complete monster, but he doesn't mean it. He mostly doesn't hurt anyone (in his experiments, or with any other action) for simply his pleasure. He just doesn't care if they do get hurt.

Ship: “Elise“, a small ship with enough room for about five persons. It has no real memorable traits, other than it being pitchblack on the outside, and having white operation rooms and a laboratory on the inside (Build into where the sleeping area for the crew was. Who needs a crew, anyway?)

Ship Flag: No flag, and that exactly is his sign. The missing of any flag.

Devil Fruit: None

Special Abilities:
A genius in the scientific field, vast knowledge of medicine and a lot of other things,
Is able to make new beings to do his bidding (“Jaques“, the being from the ship, being the primary example, though he mostly stays in his human form)
Those new beings do have their own will, but he made sure that no matter how much they hated him, they'd still be forced to follow his orders.
By experimenting on himself (see below, “the scars“) he made himself faster, stronger and more resistant to pain that other humans. He also gave himself better reflexes.
Still, he loathes fighting, and would prefer not to do so, as it takes a large amount of energy for him to use those special abilities.

Techniques (Keep it 1-25):
None, really.

Weapons/Items:
medical kit
glasses

Goals: Maybe he just wants to test how far he can go without being killed. A big gamble with the government.
But aside from that, he's always looking for someone who could beat him in terms of intelligence. A worthy adversary or maybe a worthy ally.

Further explanations:
The scars:
He got those, or at least most of those, from experimenting on himself, making himself stronger, more resistant to pain, faster, etc. Some of those experiments went wrong.
The particular scar over his eye, he got when he made “Jaques“, or at least the first version of Jaques. It attacked him, was agressive and didn't show any sign of intelligence. Only after he took some of Foxes and wolfs genes was he able to make him more obedient, and intelligent.

The eyes:
Also an experiment. They do nothing. They just changed colour. What a bummer.

Fox and Wolf:
Former names unknown, he named them after the villains in a childs story. They were his first succesfull human experiments, better than normal humans. Sadly, their life span was very short and they got worn out quickly.

Jaques, or “it“ (NPC):
An artificial human, or at least half articficial, since the body already existed. Gambler gave it the looks and the mind. It serves as a kind of bodyguard to Gambler.
Jaques combat form has claws for hands, the material of which is unknown. Its hair is gray in this form, colourless, and the long streaks in front (it's short in the back) fall into its face and cover its eyes at times. Those, when seen, are just as colourless, white eith a blurry, slim, gray iris. It may look like it's blind, but actually its sight is far more advanced than a humans could ever be. Even its skin has an unhealthy gray tone to it, as if someone had taken all colours from it, replacing them with shades of gray.
Its body seems to weight nothing, an impression made even stroger by it wearing much too big clothes, the sleeves almost longer than its arms, but still unable to cover its claws.

In human form, Jaques looks healthier, almost goodlooking, and, most of all, human. It's just an illusion, of course, created by one of Gamblers nifty devices. There's a risk of people seeing through it if they touch Jaques in any way.
In this form, its hair is (for some reason) red, and it has freckles and dark brown eyes which would be friendly if it wasn't for its cold, lifeless grin. No matter how much you change your looks, your personality stays the same.
Weirdly, though, it seems to have a weakness for other experiments like himself, and tends to go easy on them. It also has a rather rebellious streak, which is why Gambler installed a chip in its brain. Just to keep it in line.
