weapon name: Luminary Hat
description: A pointed, old, ragged hat. It has three holes in it, two small ones and one long, stretchy one that has been sewed up some time ago. The thing has a weirdly ominous feeling to it. It's one of those dead things with personality... They don't do anything, they are just... there...
weapon special abilities: Although being mostly useless, it might or might not give its bearer some smaller abilities which they are mostly not able to control.
Those may or may not include (based on how lucky you are, or how much it likes you, some say):
Fortune telling (only very short sequences, and mostly not very far in the future
Small magic tricks (mostly harmless, like making things disappear. Except the thing really does disappear sometimes. cannot be used on living things)
slightly increased knowledge (some say...)
The hats bearer might sometimes get the chilly feeling the hat is trying to communicate...
History:
Legend has it there was a witch in South Blue, once. A very wise, very powerful, but also very, very mean witch. Some even went as far as to call her evil. This witches name was Chandra Savitri, and she lived in a forest no far from a village. the villagers had to pay her, give her food and other products out of fear she could one day think the village useless and destroy it with her powers.
One day, the witch, she killed an innocent man and his wife without any motive. So the villagers, when they found the bodys, they got really angry, and they grabbed their tools and their weapons and torches, and they burned the witches house down. But the cunning witch, shortly before her dead, transferred her soul into a hat, and laid a protective spell on it, so that it could not be destroyed. She used the two small holes to see, and the rip to talk, and still her tyranny went on. One day, a hero came into the village. He was said to be the reincarnation of the man she had killed, he had his eyes, and magic abilities. So, that hero made a yarn that could surpress most of the witches magic potential and could not be stopped by her evil spell, and he sewed her mouth shut so she could not speak any curses any more.
That's how the legend is told by the people. Here's how it went down in reality:
Chandra Savitri was a good hearted and wise woman with magic abilities in her blood. She lived close to a village, and soon took on the role of its protector. In exchange, the people would give her food or products. It was a fair trade.
As time went by, Chandra fell in love with a young man from the village. They met often, but the man said they'd have to conceal their relationship because of the villagers. Chandra understood that. Her role as the protector didn't allow her to be able to be touched by a human, for that would show that she could be hurt by one. At least so she thought.
When she got pregnant, she was scared. She could conceal the signs of pregnancy, but not a child.
She told the man about her worries, in hopes taht he could somehow take the child in. But he seemed just as shocked as she was. He told her his parents picked out a bride for him, and that he would marry her soon. Now, he couldn't just show up with a child. It was against their traditions, and his family would be ruined.
He told her that he'd rather die than be forced to live without her and with a woman he did not love. So they made a plan that they knew would destroy four lives in one instant.
When Chandra gave birth to her son, she sent him far off, to a place where she knew he'd be safe, in North Blue.
Then she went to the man and his wife, and she killed them both. After that, she just had to wait for them to come after her. They did.
But as the flames were about to consume her, she got scared. She was sorry about what she had done, and she didn't want to die. In this one moment of weakness, she sealed her soul away in a hat, along with her magic powers.
After that, the legend is accurate. She became evil out of sorrow and out of hate for herself. She should have died back then, and be reuntied with him in afterlife. But she couldn't reverse the spell.
One day, a man came to the village. She recognised him as her own flesh and blood immeadeatly. She didn't defend herself when he used his magic to sew her mouth shut. That is how her reign ended.
Her sould lived on in the hat, unable to access most of her abilities. Slowly, the spell, too, faded. Today, only a mere hint of her soul is left. It is just enough to show its bearer some slight hints of her feelings, and grand them the weakest of her abilities. It consists of fading memories of a life she had, once, and sorrow of what she lost.
And all that because of a man she loved.
(Why luminary? Well, Chandra Savitri literally means "Moon related to the sun". And she was, uhm, like an expert for witchcraft or something... geddit? Oh man, I'll stop now.)
