Lawrence

Lawrence was injured in a battle between pirates and Marines. His masters were killed in the crossfire. After the battle was over, a young man, Avery, found Lawrence and looked after him. The dog has refused to leave his side ever since.

As Lawrence traveled with Avery, they encountered a duo who were forming a crew called the Fair Pirates. Lawrence originally wanted to stay with them, but certain incidents led to both Lawrence and Avery deciding that that duo needed to work things out between them before forming a crew of pirates.

Later, Lawrence and Avery ran into the Milky Way Pirates, a crew that was still in the process of forming. They joined the Milky Ways to help them get through the Grandline, though Lawrence knows that the main reason they did so was because Avery had fallen in love with one of its members, a young woman named Arianne. They had not been with the Milky Ways long when the captain, Saki Star, decided to have everyone train for the course of one year before entering the Grandline.

Lawrence and Avery stayed with the Milky Ways for six months of this training before Avery came to the decision to leave the crew for the remainder of that time. He had discovered the secret location of a legendary island deep within the South Blue. It was a wild island, upon which only Weaponsmiths and Blacksmiths, who do not use the Tetsu-Tetsu no mi, were permitted to walk. So they traveled there, leaving behind their crew and, to Avery's great sadness, Arianne.

At the island Lawrence and Avery met a man who guarded the island from outsiders. He accepted Avery as his pupil after some initial tests and began training him in the ways of making weapons. Since this island was so wild, it was a struggle just to survive. Both Lawrence and Avery had to fight wild beasts and gather their own food and build their own shelter. This was slowly making them stronger, but it also made Lawrence notice how much he relied on Avery to protect him. So he resolved to become stronger and stand up for himself and he went out into the wilderness on his own.

A week later, Lawrence reemerged from the wilderness. He was covered in wounds and his right front leg had been bitten off in a fight. Avery gave him a mechanical leg to replace the old one and warned him to not stray off again. Lawrence disobeyed this order as soon as he was better and he left. This time he lost a right eye within the first few days and might have died had it not been for a pack of IQ enhanced wolves. These wolves took Lawrence to their home, which was within a volcano. Lawrence remained here for several months learning from the wolves and slowly gaining power from the IQ plants nearby.

After several months passed, Avery, who had thought Lawrence was dead, found his dog and was surprised to find him now four feet tall and still growing. For his part, Lawrence was surprised to find that Avery had lost his left arm and now replaced it with a mechanical counterpart. He knew how much Avery hated his mechanical leg. After this first meeting, Avery left, seeing that Lawrence was happy where he was, but he returned frequently to check up on his friend. Avery even developed a new, larger leg and a new eye for Lawrence to fit his steadily growing body.

Lawrence had become strong over these past few months and with his strength he was slowly rising in popularity among the wolves. At long last, Lawrence challenged the leader in a battle of supremacy and defeated him, taking over leadership of the entire pack. By this time, all that remained of his and Avery's training trip was one month. The two spent the remainder of that time sharpening what they had learned.

At long last, the time to return had arrived. Lawrence bid his wolf friends goodbye, met up with Avery on the shore, and started the long journey back to the Milky Ways.
