Name: Shocker X. Dreyton
Age: 33
Race: Human Cyborg
Occupation: Marine Captain
Alligiance: World Government
Home Ocean: North Blue
Appearance: Though a relatively lean man, Shocker looks tall at six foot. He has a good amount of muscle on him, but it is toned and tough muscle, rather than notably bulging muscle, so it is often hidden under his clothes. He has a hard face, and cropped short black hair, and wears the standard Marine outfit aside from a custom navy blue jacket with white trim and embroidery. Shocker's fingertips are all metal, and pointed to deal extra damage. Aside from his metal fingertips, the other signs of his being a cyborg are that in his chest he has a small panel that locks in an array of nickel-cadmium cells and a pair of moderately bulky bioelectric capacitors embedded in his shoulders. Along each arm runs three metal strips, used for electrical discharge transmission.
History: Shocker joined the Marines at the young age of 16, running from a broken home in North Blue. He served as an exceptional infantryman and shipman, determined to make more of himself than his deadbeat father and fractured mother had ever managed. He was skilled enough as a fighter to get assigned to a patrol moving through the Grand Line, and in the Grand Line he saw many things, including an intimidating array of Devil Fruit users, both pirates and Marines. Whilst the power of the pirates angered him, the power of the Marines inspired him to new heights, and he decided to take a leave of duty to spend some time exploring the Grand Line. During his explorations Shocker searched for any Devil Fruit that could possibly make him a stronger fighter, but was unable to find any, the blackmarket closing off to a Marine such as himself.
Instead, he found himself dejectedly returning to a Marine base, where he applied for a more combat-oriented role, training as a bodyguard or a similar role. He was assessed for potential to be in Cipher Pol, but rejected because despite being a good overall fighter, that was all he was. Good. Not extraordinary, so not worthwhile. Nonetheless, one of the assessors saw a hint of the potential in Shocker, and assigned him to a small crew of marines chasing pirates in the Grand Line, hoping that Shocker would mature and learn new skills serving as a fighting grunt for the World Government.
Chasing down a group of desperate pirates in a wild storm, the Marines were stretched to the limits, each sailor handling more tasks at a time that was advisable. It was in this storm that a large wind gust caught a steel hatch that Shocker was working on, attempting to repair the hatch so as to prevent the waves that were crashing onto the deck of the boat from flowing down to the inner chambers. The hatch slammed down on Shocker's hands, chopping off all of his fingers near the tips. Despite the loss of his fingertips Shocker was in the middle of a pirate chase, and so simply had to continue on, as the crew had no intention of letting their quarry escape. Bandaging his hands, Shocker continued to work his duties, and eventually the Marines caught the pirates, in a desperate ship-to-ship battle in the middle of a Grand Line Storm. In the maelstrom, Shocker's captain was thrown overboard, and Shocker dived into the water to save him, pulling him aboard and earning the respect of his Marine officers.
When the crew returned to dock at a base, the captain that Shocker had saved had him transferred to a World Government medical centre, where he was given new metal fingertips, as well as some other cyborg components, all paid for by the grateful and wealthy captain. The modifications were mostly minor, though he was fitted with an experimental electrical discharge weapon as well, for prototype testing of what the World Government hoped to turn into a large-scale weapon. With his new enhancements Shocker developed his own style of martial arts to capitalise on his ability to discharge his bioelectricity into opponents, naming the form Denkashura. With his new fighting style Shocker proved to be a valuable asset and a good fighter, rising up the ranks to become a non-commissioned officer, before attending a Marine Academy at the age of 25, sitting through to become a commissioned officer, achieving the rank of Lietenant Junior Grade.
Assigned a small crew at a minor base in the South Blue, Shocker now patrols his area with pride, striving to rise in the ranks and serve the World Government as best he can.
Personality: Very tightly wound, Shocker is an honorable fighter, but highly determined and surgical in his actions. He can get upset relatively easily, and tends to verbally take it out on his subordinates, but in combat has learned to focus his emotions through meditation and restraint. Whilst he often takes his anger out on the wrong people, he tends to be remorseful for his actions, and dislikes impulsive personalities. When his emotions do spike the resultant change in his neurochemical balance tends to cause minor disruption to the bioelectric capacitance network installed in his body, causing small sparks of electricity to arc off his body intermittently until his emotions settle.
Ship Name: Valhalla
Ship Flag: Standard flag of the World Government Marines
Special Abilities: Whilst not a skill but more a feature of his cyborg body, the primary power source for Shocker's cyborg components is his own bioelectricity combined with energy-dense beverages such as beer or Sea Devil, a popular energising drink that contains high levels of electrolytes and herbs purported to boost energy on consumption. Adjacent to the beverage fueling system, Dreyton also sports an auxiliary hydrogen energy system derived from salt water. When he consumes salt water, the cells in his chest create an electrical current that allows an internal engine system to split the water into its components of hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is shunted to his lungs whilst the hydrogen is consumed in a combustion chamber for power and the salts used to reinforce the electroconductive capabilities of the biological paths of Shocker's body. Because of this, it is commonly believed that Shocker's power supply is seawater, and whilst this is true in a sense, in that it is where he derives his additional power from, the energy needed to power the water splitting process does come from the rechargeable cells in his chest, whilst for the most part the energy for his other systems comes from his Sea Devil consumption. The salt water system acts only as an auxiliary system, allowing him to continue to operate his cybernetics at half capacity when desperate. Shocker's main skill is that he is a practitioner of the cyborg combat form he invented, known as Denkashura. By channelling the bioelectricity of his own body, along with supplemental power from alternate sources, into his blows, Shocker is able to electrocute his opponents. Aside from a few minor alterations in the body though, Shocker is completely human and normal and has gained his great strength, speed and durability through hard work and training.
Learned Techniques:
Heat Release: The process of water splitting and hydrogen combustion has a tendency to generate a large amount of heat, and in order to counteract this Shocker must regularly release the heat through cooling vents in his abdomen and behind his ears when utilising his cybernetics for high-energy functions. This is released as blasts of scalding steam which create a hazy cloud around Shocker, obscuring him from sight and able to be used as a surprise technique when his limbs are restrained. However, if he is prevented from releasing his internal heat by having his vents blocked significantly the heat will build up inside him and he will collapse into unconsciousness, suffering from what looks like a fever as his body expels the heat in the slower form of sweat.
Denka Sawaru (Electric Touch): By touching another person, the user can transmit a bioelectric shock, numbing the hit area as well as dealing some electrical damage internally. Shocker tends to perform this through simple punches and kicks.
-Denka Sawaru: Ganjoken (Electric Touch: Solid Fist) - A standard punch charged with electricity.
Denka Sawaru: Sutan (Electric Touch: Stun) By holding onto the target Shocker is able to transmit a continuous low-grade bioelectric pulse that disorients the target and can send them into bleary unconsciousness after a short period of time.
Denka Sawaru: Hangeki (Electric Touch: Counterattack) A counterattacking method, Shocker voluntarily transmits electricity back through a target's own unarmed strikes of strikes with conductive weapons.
Denka Tobu (Electric Leap) By sending a significant bioelectric surge through his own muscles, Shocker can trigger a huge muscular spasm that sends him into a huge jump. The effect is very quick, and the jerking of the body is very powerful, allowing the jumping lunge to strike with great power if it hits something.
Denka Hodenko (Electric Lightning Cannon) This technique harness the weapon that the World Government wanted to test in the field, and relies on the metal strips that run down Shocker's arms. When he extends his arms towards a target he can run electricity down these metal strips, strong magnetizing forces being used to bombard the target with an ionized "leading beam" that paints the target with a strong negative charge, whilst building up a strong positive charge within Shocker. When this is completed, Shocker charges the metal strips with the positively-charged energy, causing a bolt of electricity to jump from his arms to the target, dealing localized significant burn damage, as well as electrical paralysis and numbing, and general effects of electrocution throughout the target's body. The effects of the bolt become stronger if the leading beam is held on the target for longer, and whilst Shocker is performing this technique he cannot move his feet, as he uses them as a grounding for the electrical charge. Understandably, this technique tends to draw a significant amount of power from Shocker, often exhausting him or slowing his reactions for a period of time afterwards.
Weapons & Equipment: Shocker carries the standard sidearms of the Marines, a cutlass and a pair of flintlock pistols, as well as a pair of lightweight martial combat knives designed to be hidden away and thrown if necessary. His jacket is a heavy weave material, threaded through with fine threads of conductive metals. This makes it more durable than a regular jacket, similar to medium-quality armor, and also capable of efficiently channelling Shocker's Denkashura. His boots are made of a similarly electroconductive material suitable for performing electrified kicks.
Goal: To serve the World Government to the best of his abilities, and to catch criminal pirates wherever they exist.
