When you say that objects can not pass through it, do you mean that the user can't make a hole in themselves to avoid the objects and that if someone hit them with a spear they would take damage?

Yes, they will receive damage if hit. The user kind of just becomes like how Gecko Morias shadow could acts, except can't change form completely
