how strong is the degenaration and how fast does it progress, also are there any ways to stop it once it starts?

It takes approximately 1 to 2 seconds to start, but it goes layer by layer. It can however be stopped 1 to 2 seconds after touch is released. So if the user catches your arm in a vice-grip your arm is toast, but if you get free and escape your skin can always grow back.

It can't be projected very far at all, but sometimes if absolutely necessary, the user will project a two inch shield around themselves to protect them. I say absolutely necessary because clothes aren't getting away from the consequences ^^'
But yes it can be projected a little with more energy.
